Broken G56

Well I think I have lost my 6spd. Heavy towing and some extra go juice, and she didnt make 50 thou.

Anyhow, need some advice on getting a new one, getting this one fixed, or going with an aftermarket setup.

Kind of blows, I bought this 6 spd thinking it could take what my 48re couldnt....... guess I was wrong. I might just need more truck.

Thanks for any advice.

What about your warranty?
Does your truck have one?
Filling out you're signature might make it easier for someone to answer your question.

How heavy were you towing? How much power are you running? Was there any signs of problems at last fluid change?

I looked in your profile to see your truck and after reading through some of your previous posts, I noticed you pull 38,000lbs quite often and you hold it at 1500*F or higher for extended periods of time..............

I'd say you got lucky that's all you broke.

Try looking in the sled pulling and competition forums for advice on after market stuff.

You're right about one thing............... you might need more truck!

Sorry for the delay.

Yes, I do pull 30,000lbs often, with the truck 38,000lbs. My camp trailer alone is 17,000 loaded.

I still have the 05' with the 48. I had it rebuilt at 40,000 miles or so. Then started looking for a truck with the 6spd. It lasted about 35,000 before the clutch, then it has started going down hill from there. This truck is used 95% of the time to pull, so yes, it gets used.

I am sure there is a warranty on the truck as it was stock, but not how it is now. So this one will be on me, and then I am afraid the truck will be sold.

As for what broke I dont have the foggiest. I will be looking into it this week. Loud clunking from all gears but 5th. In fifth she still sounds nice and quiet.

Has anyone heard that before?

5th gear being direct, I'd presume there wouldn't be any load on the countershaft and related gears, and less of a side load on the main shaft?

Anyway, it might be worth tearing it down to see if it is an easy fix. Otherwise I think I'd see if that one that was in the classifieds is still there.
