Brand New 06...Couple of questions.

Just picked up my new 1 ton 6 speed with 3.73's yesterday, and i have noticed a couple things that have caught my eye! And i have a couple questions.

How close is the overhead mileage from the factory? I know my second gen was within 2% usually on the good side of things(overhead said 17.2 and i was getting 17.4)This truck only has 200 km (120 miles) that i put on last night!! Mix of freeway and city, but the overhead is telling my 18.2 mpg. That was better than my broke in 2nd gen with 3.54's.

And the secondly, have you guys noticed that these truck will acclerate themselves?? I tried to bog it down too 750 rpms so i could see if these things will smoke from factory.....but at 900 rpm's the truck accelerated to 1200 rpms, and i didnt touch anything!!!

Observations:
1) More giddy-up then my 2nd gen with a comp.
2) Cant here the turbo at all!!!! (Going too remove silencer ring today)
3) Better mileage (if overhead is correct)
4) Lighter steering
5) WAY BETTER LIGHTING!!!! You can actually see in the dark with these ones!!

1) Yeah, the power still give me a great big grin!

2) I can hear the turbo spool up on higher boost levels, usually when towing.

3) Overhead MPG's on mine, read ~2.5MPG high!
Seems to be getting better with mile son the truck.

Watch the DTE sometime. I've had <10gallons in the tank for the last 2 weeks, just so I could put the vent mod on it. I've had the DTE start at 110 miles, go down to 86, then back up to 100! If it would keep doing that, I'd never have to get fuel again !

4) Steering and overall maneuverability is incredible! I can turn the truck around (QC, LB, DRW) in 3 lanes of traffic, from the left turn lane!

5) I would like a little better high beams....they seem to give some dark areas when in the middle of the desert!

Smile Brand New 06 - two cents worth...

My brother and I bought '04 4WD Quad Cab's with short beds the same day, and never could get the overhead mileage counts to agree under same conditions. I now have a new '06 4WD, and the mileage was considerably lower with stock tires if you believed the overhead. And, when I added larger tires, now it's really off!
I use the overhead as a general indicator - I had a couple '02's that were gas, and I ran for many many miles after the Distance to Empty indicator in the overhead said I had zero miles before I ran out.

I love my '06 - the sunroof is a fun toy, but what really made it fun was lifting it with Hyjacker's 4 inch lift with dual front shocks. Great kit that included new coils, and new leafs (versus donuts and blocks), and the diff is angled to accomodate the greater driveshaft angle, and there's a spacer in the carrier bearing mount so it's not under undue stress. I highly recommend it to anyone who has strong legs and knees.

Good luck and have fun! That's what these trucks are all about!

My overhead is consistantly 2 MPG LOWER than hand calculated.

Yes, you can make it smoke from the factory... happens quite a bit when I'm accelerating onto the freeway...

My overhead varies. Some weeks it's off by .5mpg. Other weeks it's 2mpg off.

thanks guys, my '02 was fairly close, just the DTE was off.....But either way this one seems too be getting better mileage, i have burned 1/8th of a tank and have about 200 miles on it. Is this fairly normal??

Maybe its just because i am babying it for the first 500 miles.

Hate to go off topic, but what is a silencer ring? How do you remove it? And if you do does it help anything?

It's the electronic idle control. You have to just about try to kill it. Try the "no pedal take-off" and the "never touch the pedal all the way up to 6th gear" some time when you're out, I wasn't sure I believed until I did it.
