Blue smoke/rough idle at start up and while idling...
As stated in the title...what is this all about? Anybody else have this problem? Truck only has close to 12K...I recently started using Howe's Meaner Power Cleaner a few thousand miles ago...8oz per tank, and I would like to think that this additive isn't causing my truck to idle roughly...I also thought that maybe I got a bad tank of fuel, but I have filled up at three different places and it hasn't gone away yet. After the truck is started, it blows blue smoke and idles rough, then straightens out, and it drives just FINE...all the power is there, etc. Then when I roll up on a stop light, it idles roughly again every so often...has been doing this for three days...what do you all think is the problem?
Hey Derek! Didn't you just get a new Superchip or Hypertech tuner? Have you loaded it yet? If so, did this problem start after? If so try unloading it and seeing what happens, also, maybe try unplugging the edge as well.
I just ordered a Diablo Sport Power Puck, but haven't loaded that on the truck yet...just the same setup I've been runnin for months...Edge on level 1 and that's it. The only new addition, well newEST is the Howes Cleaner...hoping that's not what is doing it. I just filled up and didn't add it in, so we'll see if that's it. I will also take the Edge off and see if that is causing it...if it IS...what am I to do with it? I would like to hope that a NEW product isn't messing with the truck...especially when I don't beat on it. How you been Tye?
Power puck, thats what it was. I couldn't remember exactly what it was.
I been doing good! I just ordered a pair of N-fabs last week for the truck, so I', anxiously waiting!
How have you and the misses been (Heather??) Tell her "hi" for me!

Don't know if you all remember the issue that I was having with my dealership over my towing package TSB and them trying to void my warranty because I installed my own brake controller or not...but I just thought I would call them to see what they would say and do over this whole blue smoke/rough idle thing and I got this fella on the phone that tried to tell me that "Smoking and rough idle are normal, you own a big, bad diesel for Heaven's sake but you can bring it in and we will do a diagnostic on it for you anyway. It's only $75!"
and I flipped a lid on him...I asked to speak to the nearest Cummins technician and he proceeded to tell me that their diesel techs aren't "ALLOWED" to talk on the phone with customers
...so I asked for the manager and told her that my truck would NEVER come to their establishment again, EVER and that I am filing formal complaints to both DC and her GM...can't believe dealerships these days...it's more than ridiculous.
Sorry, rant off.

So does this mean that I have to wait for them to be like "Ok...you're allowed to fix the problem now"...it describes what my truck is doing very closely...except I have more of a bluish smoke than white...thanks Tye

That TSB doesn't sound like a good thing. I was really hoping that it was just a fuel filter thing. Edge will be coming off tomorrow afternoon, truck going in to the dealer Wednesday...gosh, this is twice in 2 weeks now
