Block heater cord issues "HELP"

I plugged my truck in for 1hour today to make sure everything was working properly for the season and when I went to unplug it I burnt my fingers on the plug. This can't be normal. This has never happened before. What do you guys think is going on before I burn my truck or house down?

Thanks for the help.

Too small or too long of an extension cord, also could be dirty/corroded plug connection.

Both issues will create heat.

My camper shore power plug got hot enough to melt the plastic around it. I now clean the prongs before each use.

You could also take an ohm meter reading across the prongs, just to be sure.

Was the engine warm?

Most common cause of hot plugs is blade corrosion. Clean them good with a fine emery board and spread them a bit. Some dielectric grease won't hurt anything either. It'll help keep the corrosion down in the future. I'd also clean the receptacle of the extension cord too.

The engine was warm not hot. I will clean the plug and get a heavier cord.
How would you clean the female part of the cord?

Thanks

Trim an emery board down to fit in the slot then just stroke it in and out a few times. Be careful not to break it off in there. They're a bear to dig out!

I'd make sure the other end of the cord was un pluged!
Just a thought.
