Black Smoke. A lot of it.

Hey guys my uncle has a white 2500 Cummins that he bought used with 25,000 miles. Every since he has had it when you take off from a stop it will just roll the coal almost to the point of being ridiculous. But once you get rolling and get the engine revved up it will stop immediately. It acts like the motor is dumping more fuel in than the turbo can feed air to but has been to the dealer numerous times to confirm that it has no kind of chip or programmer on it. So I contacted the previous owner to see if it had injector work done to it but he insisted that it didnt. I just dont know what else could cause this.
Not thay I can tell. The power is about the same as my 04. And to tell you the truth I have an 01 as a farm truck and that thing whips these newer trucks as far as throttle response. I alwaysvthought it was due to most everything being mechanical on the pre-common rails. How would you check the wastegate? They are internal arent they?

Yes, they are internal. Turbo would have to be pulled in order to check it. I use to drive a junky ol' 6.5 Chebby diesel at an old job once and that thing was absolutely gutless.....would pour smoke from a dead stop but once you got up to speed it cleared right up. Wastegate was stuck wide open and wouldn't let it build any boost.....not that any amount of boost would have helped that turd anyhow!!!
Not sayin that's your problem but it does sound familiar.

Ok man i may try when I get off to pull the turbo tonight depending on how big of a job it is and see if that will fix it. Wish they wouldve left the turbo where it was on the 12 valves and older 24's. Thanks for the suggestion.

You were lucky! I had a Chevy 6.2!

My '05 will smoke as well. I don't have a tuner, but wondering if one is in it... I'm going to take mine into the Dodge dealer and have it flashed, that way it should be stock. Mine has plenty of power and mileage, not sure if she's tuned or not.
