12V, want power but not a lot of smoke

I just bought another truck, a 96 12 valve. It is all stock, except for aftermarket clutch. What mods can I do for more power without creating
a lot of black smoke all the time. I'm not a tree hugger who hates smoke, I just don't want a lot of it all the time.
I'm not after huge HP, just want to broaden the powerband.
I guess I'm looking for the 12V version of "bomb starter kit"
Thanks

Ahh yes

Welcome to the wonderful world of the 12V cummins engine.. Smoke control.. Well that is an issue we all must deal with, especially if you are looking at BOMBIng a 12V... Here is my newbie tutorial for your information

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ad.php?t=78573

Just read on farther down into it. I have the same truck that you do, so pm me if you have any questions.. If you dont want smoke and you want to still go up with injector upgrades, you can do one of two things, either A, back off the starwheel (mentioned in newbie post above), or B, back off the plate (just move it back from full forward position). You can do a combination of both and tinker with them until you actually get the power you desire and the smoke level that you can deal with......

A good BOMB start kit... (please see my photo gallery for ride, and plate pictures.. )

3K Governers Spring Kit
10 plate (one for sale in our classifieds)
BHAF or Scotty II air intake system
Good Gauges.. No brainer here...

To broaden your powerband.. OOOO that GSK will work wonders, you will wonder how u ever drove ur ram without it......

Thanks and hope this helps

Tx

one big key to not a lot of smoke is air, air, air. If you more fuel without smoke just remember if you add more fuel add more air as well.
