12v fuel plate full forward a lot less power now

Well I thought i would feel the extra 30hp after pushing the stock fuel plate forward.....but it really SUCKs. It's no where the power I had when it was at it's stock setting. The star wheel is full forward, any other thoughts?
A lot of black smoke....What can I try? I know I can put it back...but I would like a few extra hp's.
Thanks.

Might have to check the govener arm adjustment. Maybe it is sliding under the plate now that you moved it forward. It would also explain the smoke. Do a search to find out how to do this.

EDIT-
Ok I did the search. Check out this thread

try loosening the starwheel to

allow more fuel, a governer arm adjustment is in order as well, especially if you have that ugly stock plate. The arm is probably going under the plate thus your power loss.

yes slide your afc housing forward to. your going to still have the smoke thats just part of it. Its going to take some adjusting to get your smoke levels in check, just play with it until your happy. If its a stock plate try setting it not completly full forward but maybe half remember alittle goes a long way here, and then slide the afc about a 1/4'' from stock location, then if thats still to much smoke for ya tighten up on your starwheel to adjust preboost smoke.

OK I pushed the acf housing forward still very low power, turned the star wheel several times today, Low power a lot of black smoke.
I put the stock fuel plate back and star wheel full back and full forward and somewhere in between, still low power and smoke. I fully don't understand how to check the goveerner. Do I just look down throught the fuel plate and see where the lever hits the plate? My be I have other problems, If the intercooler has an air leak would it create a lot of black smoke and low power?
This CTD was ok on power before I mucked with it.
So I'm open to ideals.............. New fuel filter, air breather 3 mos old (BHAF).
Thanks

before you took your plate and afc off did you make any kind of reference marks so when you decided to put them back to stock you know were to place them? If you put your plate write back in its original position you shouldn't have to mess with the govener arm. But that ctd should be alittle stronger with the plate & afc forward and govener arm adjusted right.

Yes I did, how ever, the oil and marker got wiped off, I'm close. OK right now I just took the fule plate off and it looks lik to me the governer arm is way forward. Now when I move the pedel cable I see a little metal plunger move forward. I can take a picture and email it to you guys. I need too see a few other pictures with the fule plate removed. Do you guys know where I can find a few other pictures. I'm here at home with very slow dial up connection.
More help will be nice.
Thanks.

OK I see the governer arm sitting back up in the housing, the only way I can get it to peek out is to turn the key on and move the pedel. It looks like it will not move forward enought to hit the cam/fuel plate no mater where I position the fuel plate.
How do I remove the cover the ajest the governer arm?
Should the arm be resting on the lower edge of the fuel plate?
thanks

http://dodgedieseldatabase.com/p-pump_cut_away.htm try here and scroll down to the bottom to where it shows the cut away of the complete pump you will see the cover on the back side and on that view you can see the adjusting nut

u dont need to turn the key or step on thepeddle to see the lever arm move...u just push up on the fuel shut off solenoid and hold it in the up position and look...the best way to get ur truck to run better is to simply slide it back a hair

OK I made sure the lever arm is not riding under the plate, I know for sure.
The plate to back to stock....for now. I check th lower intercooler boot and the it was barely on, for sure leaking air/suck air. I fixed the boot, I did a overhead on it as well (valve clearence). I'm going to pull my 560 to the Case dealer in the morning I'll be able to tell if anything has changed. As far as the fuel plane and the governer arm it's riding in the right place.
What would happen if a injector went bad?
I noticed today, when the truck was at idle there was black particles coming from the tail pipe covering the snow.
Thanks
