Black smoke on acceleration

The past couple of weeks I have been seeing black smoke from the exhaust. It occurs on acceleration from a stop or low speed and at low rpm's. It lasts just a few seconds. It also seems to smoke more under heavy loads or up inclines. It has not done this since I have owned the truck. Just wondering if something is starting to fail. It has 84,000 miles.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks, Ty

Well the normal check/change fuel and air filter. Maybe run a fuel additive to clean/lubricate pump/injectors. Maybe check see if you have a small boost leak somewhere in the system. Then again maybe its just getting broke in good and wants to show off.

Perfectly normal. Don't worry about it. At slow speeds/rpms...your turbo has not spooled yet so it is getting more fuel to the cylinders than air to clear it off. Once the turbo is spooled good it will clear out the smoke. I can smoke a nice flume (at will) with the Smarty set on 9.....but stock it would smoke some too. It is very noticeable at night with car lights behind you.

Also, it will tend to smoke more if you baby it around alot...say for several days....and then get on it hard. It cleans out the exhaust system of soot.

I am pretty sure ulsd creates more smoke than the old stuff. I fueled at a pump the other day and almost immediately started nticing a good puff when accelerating. I filled up a few days later and from our on site tank(old style lsd) and the smoke dissapeared. Both tanks had PS & MMO. Has anybody else noticed this?

I do this and save the smoke for just the right time. My kids get a kick out of it, the wife just shakes her head
