Bilstein Shocks?
Trending Topics
FWIW, I am a Bilstein dealer and was interested in this thread because there is no listing for the later trucks in the Bilstein catalog. So I called my tech guy @ Bilstein in San Diego and inquired. The only listings they have for the 3rd gen trucks are for 2WD and 4WD 1500's.
These part numbers
Frt BE5-6681-H5
Rear BE5-6647-H5
are the 5100 series shocks for 94-01 1500's and 94-02 2500's that have a 3" front lift and a 0-1" rear lift. They are not specific fitment for the 3rd gen trucks. They might fit, but Bilstein believes they should not be used and is working on the application (no ETA though). I want to caution you guys about this, because clearly a Cummins truck is carrying a lot more load around than a gasser 1500 or 2500 truck. Add to that the shocks were valved for the old truck as well and you might have a long term issue. Bilstein is very careful about saying "this works" and slapping it on something else. KYB is big on that, as is Monroe and some others, but Bilstein is not. Having used MANY of them on both trucks and cars I wouldn't take their lack of a direct fit lightly.
I love Bilstein's, and look forward to having them on my Ram, but I'm going to wait for the proper fitment to do so. I will also add there are other shocks out there for the trucks. Edelbrock has specific IAS shocks for 2500 (and I assume 3500) 4x4's. I'll also note they are not the same part number as any of the older trucks.

Just curious how much do the bilsteins improve the ride on a 3500? I have the 4x4 dually and I am looking at putting in a leveling kit and cannot tell which model bilsteins to go with. I am trying to better the ride.
Sam...the recommendation for the BE5-6681-H5 and 6647-H5 came off the Bilstien web page(downloaded last night) under truck and SUV. Listed under Dodge
Pickup 4WD (lifted Suspen)
RAM 2500 02-04 FRT BE5-6681-H5 With footnote 0"-2" lift
Rear BE5-6647-H5 With footnote 0" lift

Hmm, that's interesting..... I talked to Bilstein today, not 3 hours ago.
Well, I guess good help is hard to find, because I stand corrected (sad when speaking right to a company gets you different answers than their own website). It really doesn't make sense that they are under lifted suspensions either, since all the 4x4 2500's are that way without aftermarket lift kits.
Anyway, seems like you are good to go, and that is a completely new listing. Learn something new everyday. In case y'all are interested, we do carry them as well (and I'll be putting some on my truck sooner than later now <g>).
Nice detective work.
