just wondering if the obd2 readers will give u a heads up or does it have to be to the dealer i live in newfoundland and 2 hour run to dealership and they rape and pillage , any other way to tell??

 

I am in the same delima. If you have an injector shop you may give them a call. I have one here in missouri that has told me they can do it. It is a back flow test and something else to see if they are bad. From what I find antying over 130K on a the 03 and 4 is their prime time to fail if they are going to. I am dealing with the hard start and smoke at idle.

 

pretty hard to diagnose injectors yourself. if one is sticking open and filling the case with diesel you will know about it when oil starts spewing everywhere. an injector shop may be able to scan for problems with injectors like solenoids not firing, but some injector diagnosis requires a dealer scan tool i think. Like to test injector return flow to see if injectors are leaking too much return fuel you need to ramp up rail pressure to 20k. other option is to remove them yourself and have them bench tested somewhere like F1...

My stick shift would shake violently at different rpm's.............bad injectors

 

hard starting, smoking white on start-up, rising oil levels are all typical signs of bad injectors.

You can also check to see if you have one partially going with an IR gun. Bring the engine up to temp and with the IR gun check the temps on the exhaust manifold. The should all be within about 75* of each other. If one cylinder is way out of that & you're having the problems stated above, I would pull a shop do a injector leak down test, and any other tests that they have available before pulling them.

i dont know that seems pretty constant to me any one else i was expecting huge difference i guess

Mine also will die shortly after starting on occassion. I was advised that is an sign of failing injectors, in addition to smoke at idle and start up and hard start. Not sure if you have an injection shop near you but if you do I would see them before i would see any dealers.
