BD or Goerend converter?

Other than BD using a stamped steal cover, and Goerend using a billet cover, is there going to be much of a difference in how they work. I mainly just want to lower my stall speed. But I have heard that people with the Goerend sometimes have a CEL come on because the stall is so low the ECU thinks the trans is not working right? I plan on doing a valve body/converter and a High strength lever, apply strap and anchor for band. Goerend recommends that last one if you doing a valve body. If I use BD, I want to use all their stuff, if I use Goerend, I want to stick with all their stuff. I am leaning towards Goerend because his tripple disk comes with a unlimited milage lifetime warranty, and he is a super nice guy who will give you way more info than you ever asked for. I am just worried about the CEL coming on. I DON'T want to be reseting the CEL every week. Oh ya, right now my truck is a bone stock 07 QC 4x4 with the 5.9 with 14000 miles. Future power plans will be done only after the trans has been taken care of. And all I want to do is a Smarty JR, a CAI, and a turbo back exhaust, THAT'S IT!

If your only doing those mods then keep the tranny stock.. Unless you really want a built tranny.

Actually, I probably will leave it stock, at least for another year or so. It's either put in a lower stall converter, or sell the truck. I HATE the stock, high stall converter so much, I am totally unhappy driving this truck. Everytime I lightly step on the go pedal, and the tach jumps way up, and the truck barely moves until it gets around 2000 rpms, it just reminds me of how un-efficient that crappy stock converter is. I want a new converter just because it will be so much more efficient. Hell, i'll probably make my money back in the fuel savings alone in no time.

Dave will do whatever you want for a converter. It doesn't have to be a super low stall.

I will be ordering a converter from him soon. I already have the valvebody and have been very happy with it.

I have driven a truck with a really low stall and IMO it makes the truck doggier. I don't care for that at all either. The truck I drove had 295s, 3.73s and when you romped on it, it would only rev up to 1400 RPM. This made the truck feel gutless.

For bigger tires (35s with 3.73 gears) and my elevation (5000 ft) I only want something just a hair lower then stock. Dave was saying about 200 RPM lower then stock stall and I can't remember what that was??? Like a 15 blade left cut or 17 blade, or something?

Why Suncoast? What is different about their parts. I figure all the trans guru's build their converters about the same way, all using high quality parts. Valve body's, maybe each guy has their littly extra touch or some secrete that they think only they know about, but what is really different about it from someone else's. I'm not talking about the 2 day tranny rebuild shop around the corner, but the main players that get talked about on these forums everyday. I was wondering about the BD converter because they don't use a billet cover like everybody else seem's to. I'm wondering what the advantage is to that other that BD saying "it's stronger than billet". I'm not limiting myself to Goerend. But, his helpfullness goes a long way in my book.

I would not recommend Just the TC, I hear on the Factory TC , it works for everything thing, but is not great at anything thing. That low stall or efficient TC is going to put stress on component's behind it that will not support the addition TQ it will produce, that being said you need to take inconsideration the life of the unit..Do at least a VB/TC... When it comes to tranny's find someone who does NOT tell you what you want to hear, unless you have access to their bank account.

You know, this is a really good point that we should all remember when we are shopping for parts. Its something none of us likely do when we are looking at aftermarket parts - and if a vendor isn't going to be honest enough to tell you what the product isn't good at, its time to move on to the next.

Whatever you do stay away from BD. I have a triple disc sitting on the garage floor that I bought brand new and it never did lock up. I posted some stuff about it on BD's site and all they would do was blame my tranny. I put another tc in it and what do you know no more slip.

Jeff Garmon is another option for a good trans. I know a guy personally that drag races a 8300lb Mega Cab with one of Jeff's transmissions for 3 years now and it has not broken or let him down yet! BTW, this mega is capable of running in the high 11's in the quarter mile. Here is a link to his site. http://www.garmonsdieselperformance.com/
