Baldwin PF 7777??????

I went to a cummins shop today and noticed they sold Baldwin filters. I asked for the Pf 7977 and they only had the PF 7777 and they said it was the latest version of their best filter for my 5.9? Anyone heard this or know of the Micron rating of the 7777? is it 5 microns like the 7977?

Hmmm... I just talked to a Baldwin filter engineer two days ago and he said his best filter for the 5.9 is the 7977.

He said it was about the same as the Cummins/Fleetguard FS19856.

I'm using the Cummins so there is no warranty question just in case.

The PF7777 is the older design filter used on the VP series engines. Stick with the PF7977.

The Baldwin is Bosch approved for their fuel system. I get them@ Grainger for $12.85 ea. Exact fit.

Thanks guys I will use the 2 I picked up today for my 2002 cummins and keep the 7 micron ( fleetguards) for my 2007 5.9. I have the 2 micron set up as well so I doubt it will make much difference.

I was told the 7977 was better than the Cummins/Fleetguard FS19856.

And I was told they were extremely similar. The engineer I talked to really wanted to get into how the fibers were made and laid up and how the testing is done and how there is no such thing as a 2 micron filter any more (using the new test) and all I wanted to know is if he had a better filter than the 7977.

He said the 7977 was the best filter on the market for the 5.9. That's when I said I'll use it then because the Fleetguard is a 7 micron and he interrupted and said "Well actually the Fleetguard FS19856 uses the (whatever) fiber and compares very favorably to the Baldwin 7977 and provides very similar filtering capabilities. I wouldn't hesitate at all to use a FS19856 in a 5.9".

Now this was their engineer, not customer service. So that's what I'm using. The filter is made by the company that has the warranty on my injectors, and if it's recommended by Baldwin besides, why not use the Cummins filter?
