Bad Fuel + P0088 HELP!!

Well MY 04.5 Dodge started hard and was running real bad the other mourning. So I shut her down and had it towed to the dealer because it still under warrenty. Well they call today and said I had bad fuel and my whole fuel system needs to be replaced for a grand total of $12,000

I just filled up the other day and ran fine for 3 days and then bam!!
I guess what I'm asking is what do I do now? Dodge won't warrenty it and my Insurence won't cover it. Is there any way to make the gas station pay?

And if that fails whats the first things I need to do to fix it myself?
I'm pretty good with my hands and gas engines but I have never touched a diesel. So Any help would be great thanks.

It also throwing p0088 code witch is high fuel rail pressure So whats next?

First get a sample of the "bad" fuel that they are telling you about... Don't let them lie to you... get the sample ASAP.

$12,000 is highway robbery. What exactly is bad? Find out what they are telling you they are going to replace.
Replacing a CP3 and 6 injectors (which I highly doubt are all bad) is no where near the figure they quoted you. Nowhere near HALF that amount. Sounds like these guys are trying to rape you.

I seen their sample they had and then I took my own sample and both are real cloudy with little particals in it.

They said that I need to replace everything from the tank on to the injectors including fuel lines which is just pure BS.

I really just don't know what to do? On top of all that I have been laid off for the last 4 months.

Contact a lawyer and the station where you bought the fuel... You cannot be the only one who's fuel got screwed up... Good luck... it'll get better.

Honestly, how much do you trust this dealership? What I'm thinking is, yes the fuel may be bad, but wouldn't your filter catch most of the bad stuff???

Point is, maybe your filter was severely clogged which gave you the rough running condition and now the dealer wants to make some money off of you.... just an idea.

ULSD is cloudy. The tiny particles can be pieces of your CP3 if it shelled out. Send the Sample off and have it tested immediately. Naked eye troubleshooting will not cut it for a $12,000 repair bill. Also, if it they think it is water then why in the heck didn't the WIF light come on. You have to stand up big time right now, but be nice. You have to make them prove their statement. Looking at a glass of diesel just isn't gonna cut it. Get hopping buddy!!!!! You can be one of the few who beats the system. Also, they had a recall on the 06' trucks for two tank vents that would allow trash/water to get into the tank. They have had that problem in 03' all the way to 06'. Why they didn't recall the older models, go figure. You got legs to stand on, so stand up, be nice though. You can be one of the few who win the battle if you try hard enough.

This is chrystlers answer to any 5.9l coming in with injector issues at my local ***********. My brother works there and has literally seen the tech take sand out of the smoke pen ash tray and put it in a sample. Chrystler needs to replace that crapy fuel filtration system on these trucks that only filters to 10 microns in the first place which is a huge issue you have that to stand on with them as well and push that issue. Secondly dig up the reciept for the fuel you purchased and have your insurance company contact that places claims department we just had a buddy go through this with valero ended up getting quoted 9k for injectors, cp3, new fuel lines, new lift pump, new injector lines and fuel rail along with connector tubes. The insurance company contacted valero and they cut him a check he ordered the cp3 and injectors for half the cost and got ddp injectors and a new bosch cp3 for a 1/3 of what dodge wanted and then just paid chrystler to install the parts they weren't happy but he saved a huge penny.

The Diesel fuel in my truck looks just like mountain dew. Is that normal? I don't know where to start there isn't another dodge dealership around my area for a while. And i'm looking for a Cummins service shop but can't find any. I think I'm just screwed.

If by mountain dew you mean green then your in good shape. Most diesel fuel is either green to yellowish or clear if it is a browner tint stop filling up I really dont even like the yellow stuff. Mostly try and stick with the green or clear stuff sometimes the red.

Here is a pic of the fuel.

[IMG][/IMG]

The fuel on the far left is the fuel from the gas station where I filled up at, Thats the same fuel in my truck that is supposed to be bad.

The 2 on the right ae from other gas stations in my area. (good diesel)

Regardless, as Spooler asked, Why didn't the WIF light come on? Dodge knows the fuel systems are sensitive and the filter/WIF is crappy. That's why as Breedsrt says, this is their pat answer. Just about any truck that shows up with a fuel-related issue is liable to need at least one injector, better replace them all to do it right. Why not replace the whole fuel system from stem to stern and make some extra profit? They will weasel out of it any way they can. Don't let them screw you!

You can buy injectors for under $3000, a new injection pump for $1700 and a new lift pump for $500. With about 10hrs labour you can have your fuel system replaced.
Another 2 hours flush your lines and tank out.
Tow it home and do it yourself.
