I just bought an 03 Quad Cab with the SO ISB 250 and 125,000 miles. When at idle I hear what sounds like valve clatter so I tried doing the valve lash adjustment last night and ran into a problem. I can't figure out how to get the crank at TDC.

I unscrewed a cover from the front of the injection pump and could see the gear but no marks. Are there any other ways ?

 

Come on guys I need some help here. Somebody has have an idea.

 

You don't need to look at the gears. I rotate the engine using the alt nut and just bring it around until the "line on the damper" is straight up at 12:00.

do half the valves, rotate on complete rev and adjust the other half. I don't have my notes with me to tell you which ones are adjusted together, but you could probably search on here and find it.

When adjusting the valves.use the following procedure.
1: rotate engine 'till #6 valves "rock"(Exh. closes,& Int. opens.)Adjust cyl.#1.
2:Rotate eng 'till #2 cyl. rocks.Adjust Cyl.#5
3:Rotate engine 'till ##4 cyl.Rocks,Adjust cyl.#3
4:Rotate engine 'till Cyl.#1 rocks.Adjust cyl.#6
5:Rotate engine 'till #5 cyl. rocks.Adjust cyl.#2
6: rotate engine 'till cyl#3 rocks.Adjust cyl.#4
Done.
