American Axle problems
Re:American Axle problems

Unless American Axle is sending seconds over to the Dodge camp, I don`t know what could be the problem.

The 11.5" rear axle is the same as the 2500HD and 3500 GM trucks with the 8.1L or the 6.6L Duramax. And I have never heard or read any problems with them so far. They have been out for more then 2 years.

I have that axle in my truck, At about 3400 miles I changed the fluid to Mobil 75W90 and the existing oil looked fine. No problems in the first 16,400 miles.

I wouldn`t be worried if they put a brand new rear axle in the truck. Chances are it was a defect, or someone was sleeping during the assembly, and over tightened something. or missed something.

Good luck with your new truck!

Mike
Re:American Axle problems
I took the truck with the new diff assy. Have put 1500k on it since yesterday and is fine. I paid for it this afternoon. They threw in a roll tonneau cover, 0 ded warranty and two oil changes. I have full confidence in the service dept. They busted their butts to get the truck on the road. But as always time will tell. This is the first Dodge truck I have ever owned, having 4 Fords since '87. All the Ferds, as they are called here, have served me well, two with over 300k and the others around the 260 mark. So I am hoping this truck does as well. With the rocky start I was starting to wonder........
Love the Cummins........

Paul
Re:American Axle problems
Refuse the truck.
Get another one, remember quality in repairs from individuals is risky compaired to QS9000 certified assembly lines.

--Justin
