American Axle Vs Dana 80

I'm curious, I'm sure someday there will be a day when I make enough power to destroy my Dana 70, at which point I need to put a Dana 80 in.

What are your thoughs on the new American Axles under the 3rd gens vs the Dana 80s in the manual-cummins equipped 94-2002 trucks?

Are there different sized American axles under the new Dodge or are the 2500 & 3500 SRWs the same as the 3500 DRW?

not sure on different flavors, but the aftermarket is already tooled up for the 80 whereas you may be waiting around a good while if you want to upgrade the AAM, FWIW

Re : Rears

I am new to to this fourm ...I am strating all over building anew truck ...I have a f-350 with about 80 grand in it ...and it's just siting in my driveway waiting for the tittle to come back before I can un load it ...that truck has the 22.5 alcoas ... with the big tires ...
Now I have a little dodge I just picked up to get my feet wet ...LOL
I do know rears , I would go with the 80 , lack of available parts would be the reason I would steer away from AAM .
I was building a few of those eaton rears ... there like bullet proof and you can even do a two speed rear ... just not in four wheel drive ... that would be a mess.
You should really check out Danatrac ... they can build a rear !
Later

I also agre with the 80, as strong, and a LOT more aftermarket support. So you can build it even stronger...

ARB?

Or a detroit locker..... for ur Dana 80, Powertrax have a good reputation? The only reason i aint gotten a locker (yet) is the funds for it... I sure wouldnt mind an ARB though.....

Just put in my arb for my 80 and love it. If you are putting in an arb, get the dana 70HD w/35spline shafts. The dana 80 arb will not work unless you have a thick gearset that no one makes as we speak, but are going to release in the next month or so. 800 bucks will get you rolling.
