I dump 5 ounces of Howes meaner power cleaner and 15 ounces of Howes lubricator anti-gel in there on every fill up. They don't have any alcohol or solvents which are bad for injectors. They demulsify water out of fuel really well. I drain fuel out of my water seperator once a month and there's always a little water that comes out which probably wouldn't if not for the Howes. The main reason I use them is for their biocide properties keeping the the bacteria from growing in my tank. They lube the injectors. You could get by just fine without additive. ULSD is no different from LSD lubricty wise according to the refiners. But I treat my truck better than my girlfriend and I think it likes to sip on the Howes

BTW - just had a thought - if you use ATF, and you get stopped and your tank gets dipped for offroad fuel, will they nail you because the ATF is red?
I use the same, and I had the same question about ATF. It seems to run quieter with the PS Gray, so I'll stick to that.

I started using PS Diesel Kleen and MMO mix in every tank after I had a failed/leaking injector at around 7,000 miles. At 67,000+ now and only missed one tank. Maybe just imagination but I think I could tell the difference by the end of that tank. Seemed rougher idle and little more racket.

So I suppose its not too early to start putting additive in mine. I will buy some at the local store tomorrow. How often do you need to put it in?

I am curious if anybody has any documented proof that any of this stuff helps anything??

Like I mentioned earlier, I never run anything except diesel and im on my original injectors with no problems with 67,000 miles. Is this something that just makes YOU "feel" better or does it actually "do" something to benefit the truck?? IF it does benefit the truck....does anybody have any DOCUMENTED proof that it does??

This kinda reminds me of the threads we hear about "cylinder washdown" and what damage it does to our engines to idle them for extended periods of time. I have never heard of, seen proof of, or known of anybody who has ever shown any documented proof of cylinder washdown on our trucks. I think it's hogwash. Idle it a minute or idle it forever. It's a machine it doesn't care. My point being, put in the snake oil (diesel additives) if you want, or don't. It's a machine, it doesn't care and it's fine either way.

Personally, I think the money would be better spent on a GDP 2 micron filtration kit to send the cleanest fuel you can to the injectors.

I dont know about cylinder washdown but I know when I idle my rig all night for 8 or 10 hours when i first take off there's a huge cloud of smoke. The more miles the truck racks up the more white the smoke cloud turns with time. If that is from "cylnder wash" then I have to say that is proof enough for me cause anyone could plainly see that is not good for an engine.

Now with regards to these diesel treats. The truth is I think all these great mileage increases are bogus. I don't believe a one of them. As for lubing injectors yes they do that and that's the whole point for most people. As for biocide yes some of them do that too. It's not just feel good to dump that stuff in there to keep bacteria growth down in the tanks. For you guys driving your trucks every day and running lots of fuel through there thats not an issue but on my truck being parked for long periods it is.

Walmart sells the PS, both gray and white bottles. I'm not sure where to get the others mentioned here.

This is the PS year-round formula I pick up from either Walmart or Canadian Tire here in Canada....

I use 4-5 oz of Lucas to every tank and see a small increase in mpg if I keep my foot out of it and it also works great in my wife’s car to boost her gas mileage.

Which Lucas additive do you use?

As far as the Power Service stuff. It seems to me you would use the gray bottle (Diesel Kleen) in warmer weather and the white bottle when it's colder outside for the anti-gel properties(?)
