Adding ATF+4 through shifter
Adding ATF+4 through shifter
I replaced the atf+4 in my manual tranny tonight. I used Castrol synthetic. I have been reading that if you tow a lot you need to add an extra quart through the shifter to keep the front bearing cool. How easily is that done? thanks
I looked at mine once, considering doing the same thing, but it looked like a real PITA to remove the cup holders and everything else associated with getting at the top of the transmission.
I would think it might just be easier to either jack up the drivers side of the truck, or even drive it up on run-up ramps to tip the tranny enough to add some extra.
I do have a question though. Why are you using a ATF+4 in your manual tranny? I just changed my fluid and I used Redline MTL in mine. This was the second change and I am real happy with the Redline MTL.

I need to do the qt overfill too, just havent wanted to open up the shifter yet. Getting the interior plastics out is cake, I just dont want to spill anything or make a mess inside since these seats stain if you look at them wrong.

I just put my finger over the bottom of the fill hole and squirt it in. (It helps to put a hose on the end of the bottle tip) When you get enough in, throw the plug in and tighten it down.
