add an external tranny filter?

Im getting ready for my first tranny filter change/flush at 38K miles. Was considering throwing an external, spin on filter assembly on as well.

I searched, and didnt see much asked about this. I know they do it on the newer rigs, so I am guessing it is worth it??????

The few re-builders I know say its not advisable to put on.

I would guess the pumps cant handle the resistance.

But if you choose to do one I would use a hydraulic filter.

The newer ones are designed to have one in a place where the pressures are high enoough to not rob the trans of lube flow. On a purely stock 48RE anything in the coolant flow has the potential of robbing the the drive train of cooling and lube flow.

To do it without impacting other things you really need a seperate pump to circulate the fluid thru a filter.

Adding an external filter will reduce fluid flow and line pressure neither are good for your transmission.
