external tranny filter
Spend the money on a complete flush and fill. Have that done once a year in between regular filter changes and you will be better off. I usually check for coupons for local shops because it is a little pricey. If you really want to add to your tranny get a bigger pan or cooler or both.
I have an external spin on filter, I have heard to many horror stories of Converters spitting material out thru the coolers then into the pan where it can mess up the governer solenoid.
I mounted mine just below the coolant/tranny exchanger and also plumbed in a psi xmitter to monitor TC lock up PSI,
I use a basic PH8 filter size but stick with the pure one filters. If you do toast a TC at least most of the particles will be caught in the filter, and may not ruin the rest of the tranny...

I did a external for the reason of running ful syn tranny fluid ... I will go 60 miles on my syn fluid , they say it's good for 100,000 but if I wanted to service the filter I would have to drop the pan to remover the filter and that defeats the whole purpose ...so now I can just unscrew the filter every 10,000 miles or so and put a new one on ...its great but was alot of work and if your not doing it for that purpose I wound not recomend it !
I did all my lines at the same time ...You can order all the fittings and hose's and even a 20 micron filter with bypass valve .
I even installed a gauge on the side of my housing so I could tell my trans pressure ...
Yes it is a little over kill but it worked for me ... I have 20,000 on my set-up .

where did you get the the fittings and bypass valve?
Mcmaster Carr has everything ... I did it a little overkill ...Look under parker reuseable hydraulic hose fittings ...I used the 1/2 inch on everything and I also used hose swivel fittings and adapters ...Make sure you use the the hose thats is used with the fittings ...I think I used SAE 100r1 .
Like I said I got a littled carried away ... mine cost me around 300 bucks ... but it is very nice and I will never have to worry about it !
When you do your connection to the tranny just use 1/4 npt ...some guys have a problem and will not agree with that ...it's fine I used 1/4 npt in the front and rear tranny and I have never had a problem !
