Lube on fuel filter cap ??

My fuel filter cap is difficult to remove... even after breaking it loose with the socket, it's hard to turn. I always coat the o-ring with fuel when I change the filter but I have never used any other lubricant on the threads or o-ring.

Does anybody else use anything on the cap or o-ring other than diesel fuel?

Thanx
-Mark

I have always used clean oil. ULSD is not very lubricating on the o-ring IMO.

I've always used a little Vaseline on the threads. Not sure if this is bad, but no problems I'm aware of with 78K miles now.

I always wet my fingers with motor oil (because I change the fuel filter when doing oil change) and rub the oil all around the O-ring before putting it on the cover, works for me. I've never used fuel.

Looks like quite a few have been using motor oil...
I change both filters at the same time too, so I'll give that a shot at the next change.
Thank you!!

I have some O-ring lubricant which is a lot like Vaseline. I have also used motor oil prior to having the O ring lube available. Both products seems to yield the same result though.

Yes, very little, only enough to wet one finger and my thumb, then I pull the rubber O-ring between the two wet fingers, puts a fine coat of oil on it. Then pop it onto the cover. It never leaks.

Engine oil. Put some on the threads as well. It makes it much easier to do it.
