Acting like it ran out of fuel. HELP!

New to the forum and I'd sure appreciate any help. Last night cruising down the highway at 70mph it started acting like I was out of fuel it slowed down to 35 and I was able to make it to a parking lot before it shut down and then I couldn't get it started again. Fuel filter is 6 months old.

Thanks,

Fill in your signature so we can see what kind of truck you have and the mods that may or may not be done. It may be a bad LP. Not enough info to tell.

You need to tell us about your truck. Does it have any mods on it?

Did you recently buy fuel? Maybe you got some gasoline in there. If so sniff the fuel tank. With diesels the usual malfunction is with fuel.

If you have any mods like a chip - wiggle the wires where they attach to the sensors. I had that happen and my truck stopped cold like yours.

What circumstances led up to this occurrance? We need further input from you in order to possibly help.

Good luck,

Joe

I have an 04 no mods, filled up with fuel Sunday night and drove Mon, Tue just fine. Would water in the fuel cause this severe a reaction?

I've got an 04.5 and at 28000 driving along ,sputtered, got going ,then slowed, stalled and would not start.Took to dealer(towed)and it was the lift pump. they installed an in tank unit,no charge under war...It's been fine since and now 48000.Good luck.

Put a plastic bottle on the fuel filter hose and see if water comes out when you open the drain valve.

I just know you read what's in the link below, and looked at the wiring.

Actually that exactly how mine acted. Is it showing any code's when you cycle the key on and off.

Like others have said, it's more than likely your lift pump. If your under 100,000 miles have the dealer install a new one under warranty. They will remove the one mounted to your fuel filter and put a new in-tank lift pump in.
