2001 24v acting like it's out of gas

Hello, I have a 2001 24v that is stock except for a new AirDog 150. I installed the AD about 2 weeks ago and have driven several hundred miles with and with out a load with no problems untill now. It is acting like it's running out of gas. It started when I had just under 1/8th of a tank. So, I thought it was out of gas. I filled up and it's still acting like it. It can't maintain rpm's... it'll just bog down and puff white smoke. It seems that going up hill makes it worse. I drained the water out of it but there wasn't much if any in there. I checked all the lines and they are still tight. I checked the codes and got P0230 and P0234. The truck is undriveable as it is now. It died on me several times in the 1 mile from the gas station to here. Please help me out on this one. I've searched and searched but I can't find anything that is the same as this. Thanks a lot! Jay

White smoke is generally from a timing error.
Are you sure there are no other codes? Did you cycle the key three times to get them? I think the 0234 code is the map sensor.
I would suspect the vp44.

I just checked it the codes again (by doing the turning it on off etc..) and it also had P1693. The white smoke only comes when it is boging down.

Ok... so I bled the fuel line and seems to be getting plenty of fuel. I have it in the driveway idleing and about every 10 seconds or so, it starts to cut out and then it'll pick back up and run perfect. But it continues to do it. Please give me some ideas on this. Thanks.

i would say that could very well be a failing cam or crank sensor but, the white smoke is really throwing me off!! i would think any "hall sensor" would through a code??

I just let it idle for about 20 minutes and the problem was still there. I then checked the codes again and the only code on there was the P1693... why would those other codes just dissapear? I just unhooked the batteries in hopes to maybe reset the computer. I will hook it back up in about an hour.

I'm in trouble with this one... I'm lost. Everything I can think of get's thrown out the window because it'll run fine for a little bit and then start doing it again. It seems that right after I start it, it will run fine for about 2 minutes and then start doing it again. ... .... .....???? I'm clueless..

at this point well just have to see what happens when you hook the batteries back up...

my only suggestion is while your batteries are unhooked clean any and all elec. connections with contact cleaner. cant hurt and at least will help to pass the time.

you could try draining the few filter housing then replace it with a new filter and fill the canister up with lucas fuel treatment.this has worked for me on the larger engines.if this will fix the problem temporarly, then a IP or injectors have issues.

Again, did you use a scanner?

I haven't used a scanner... I don't know where I can take it to get one. I just moved to Chapel Hill, NC.

After hooking the batteries back up (after about 2 hours) it is still doing it!

What is your fuel pressure? Mine acted similar before I had to replace my lift pump.

You should consider investing in one - a GOOD scanner and a fuel pressure guage are essential tools for a 24V.

If you swing by Autozone - they SHOULD let you use theirs....might be worth a shot if you can get the truck running.

hahaha, maybe if you filled your fuel tank with diesel instead of gas it would run properly.

i know, he is actually having an issue here, but i couldn't resist. i'm sure many of us have said 'i have to fill up with gas' when referring to our 'cummings' diesel trucks!!!

carry on now, lame joke over . . .
