AC Comp & Defrost
Maybe I'm an idiot but can someone tell me why my AC Comp kicks on when I turn the dial to Defrost?

The A/C compressor cycles when in the defrost mode because as the cooled, circulated air passes through the evap core, it is filtered (to an extent) and the moisture is drawn out of the cabin air, aiding in faster removal of the moisture that is on the inside of the windshield. Hope this answers your question. I always wondered the same thing until I learned that in an A/C course that I'm currently taking.
