70mph Vibration
My 06 RC 4x4 vibrated at exactly 70 mph. I brang it in and thay replaced the driveshaft. Now it vibrates at 55. I hate to bring it in again, but maybe when i get my leaky injecter pump fixed ill have them look at it.
I would say somewhere around 425 to 450hp. Thats based on a dyno run my friend did on his truck that has the exact same mods I do. I was in four inch deep mud at full throttle, performance setting on the BD and on a moderate incline getting back to an oil rig. First time in 22 years a truck has made me call for a tow.
John Holmes, the tech guru at www.carsondodge.com says it's because of the hydroformed chassis. They have a sticky on their forum that lists the top ten fixes they found to correct the problem.

Endured the 70-75MPH vibration for 92000 miles. The replacement power steering hose helped some. Wasn't until I replaced the Michelin tires with TOYO's that I got rid of the vibration completely. Even though tires were listed as a possible cause, I was a non-believer. Until now
Guess I'll chime in with my '04 QC 4x4 CTD SWB nightmare too...
I have the dreaded whaaa whaaa whaaa harmonic at 68-72 MPH. I just picked my truck up from the dealership about an hour ago. It's been in there since Monday, initially for a blown pinion seal that was slinging diff oil all over the underside of the truck. I told them the tranny (or something) was leaking as it was dripping right at the bottom of the bellhousing where the tranny bolts to the engine. They said they didn't see anyhting (of course not, I climbed under it and it's apparent someone has wiped it clean)...I'll keep an eye on that.
Anyway, the seal was fixed by tueday afternoon, the rest of the week was spent trying to fix the harmonic buzz and noise. I even had to go down there and take several of them for a drive to show them what I was talking about (they all agree it is there), they just can't figure out how to fix it.
I picked the truck up to take home for the weekend (and holiday Monday) because I can't afford to pay for the **** rental car to just sit in the driveway all weekend.
I am supposed to take it back Tuesday for them to continue their work...debating that as I can't afford another $225 to rent a POS Chevy Kobalt for another week.
My truck has 49,000 miles on it. I guess I could try the shaft indexing myself and see what that does. The truck did not have this vibration when I bought it new in '04. It's something that has developed over time. If the shaft indexing doesn't do it, then I dunno what I will do because in addition to the harmonic, the steering is getting bad. Lots of play in the steering (and I understand why...because of the cheap inverted Y steering setup with ball joints, etc)...I could pay $700+ out of my pocket for a Thuren track bar and crossover steering setup and that WILL fix it, but ****...49K miles and the steering is shot..GULP!
It's kind of a love/hate thing for me right now. I love the looks of the truck, I love the Cummins, but hating the poor quality of a supposed "heavy duty" truck that's requiring time and money just to keep it usable and with so few miles and no "heavy duty" use of it since new.
I know with a lot of money and aftermarket parts, it'd be awesome (but that's true for any truck).
That lemon law thing is starting to sound good.

I have the same problem, 70 to 80 then it's gone. I've read this whole thread and it seems to me that we're all just gonna have to eat the vibration to keep the cummins. This is my first diesel, 21yrs old, I'll never buy another gasser!
I feel for all those dodge owners who own expensive viberators,I too own one of those.I too also have one of those dealers that don`t give a rip about his customers, until the warrenty is finished. But I was wondering if anyone out there has tried a retubed driveshaft, reason I ask is that I`ve that had my driveshaft replaced(still vibes)with one off the lot .Then ,with some discussing with service manager and not getting anywhere the parts manager said that he would send it in.Sure enough it was out .05 at transfer case output. It can only be put back to .02.I talked with the driveline shop who told me that there sister shop 4+ hours away retubed 4 driveshafts for a dodge store in Medicine Hat last summer. They removed the tapered ends on the shaft, and to this day they haven`t heard back from the owners of these trucks(so they tell me).I can`t get hold of these owners to substanuate this.I can only hope that they would get back to me.Driveline shop say that there is cardboard inside these shafts, could this be part of the problem?(Nice recylcing DODGE).
Has anyone tried retubing?

I have noticed when towing,
the vibration is not as bad
the vibration gets a little worse under load on a hill as opposed to flat land
My trailer is 14K gooseneck with lots of tongue weight 3500# or so when I checked weights on a truck scale. I don't have airbags and my truck squats about 4" down and sits well into the overloads. After all the reading I have done this morning I am wondering if it is pinion angle changing under load conditions. I did not have this vibration before I had my front pinion seal replaced last year.I am just thinking out loud and trying to possibly help some other people as well.

I got an 04 3500 with same noise and at first I though it was the rear axle, I was planning on going back to 373 gears so I decided to rebuild both front and rear axles but after all that the noise still there it's enough to drive me crazy. I have done the following remove front driveline, replace ujoints, balanced rear driveline, replaced the bushing on the tail shaft of the transfercase, bough new tires, balanced the couple of times had them rotated and the vibration still there just after 65 mph. I just about given up can anyone help thanks.
