50mph shift into OD Normal?

at 50mph, when I'm on the throttle at all, the truck shifts HARD into OD. Is this normal? It doesn't really bother me all that much, but I want to be sure its not adnormal?

Also, when decelerating, at about 5mph when coming to a stop, there is a buzz almost, when it shifts the last time. NOrmal?

thanks,
daniel

Yeah, both are normal. When people ask me if there is anything I don’t like about my truck, I say the only thing that bugs me is this 4-speed trans and the way it shifts into overdrive way to early. It really gets on my nerves sometimes. I have asked the two dealers that we have up here if they can change the overdrive shift speed, both say no.

What kind of "Torque Converter-Lock" are you using?

Oh... ok. I guess I don't have a special torque thing -thanks!

-It would seem that one should be able to download different shift points, including the OD.

I have'nt had a reason to do it on that yr.&mod. but from what I understand the RPM and speed , throdle possision control the L.T.C. , an other cars & trucks as simple as adjusting the throdle cable going to trans. can change shift point , so a little at time in or out till it shifts softer is better for the trans. , also it seems a little deceveing to me becouse of boost coming from turbo gives it more surge. I think 40-45 mph is about where you want it.

Not really. The gear is too tall to be shifting that early in my opinion. As an example, accelerating at say 1900 RPMs, when I hit about 47/48 mph, it shifts and locks the converter at the same time and RPMs drop to about 1300. That is a big drop. If you have an aftermarket turbo on it will get barked pretty good.

On my '95 12 valve I had the overdrive shift set at 54mph. The dealer was able to change it for me and it was perfect. They tell me it can't be done on the newer trucks, but again if I could get it to shift at about 54mph when RPMs are below 2000, that would be perfect.

mine does the same thing. locks at 50mph. my only gripe is that it doesn't unlock util the speed decreases to 45 if i have any pressure on the throttle. i have to let off to get it to unlock and not bog the motor down. then get back on it. a real pain in town.

Yeah, in town the OD is locked out, but accelerating up to speed on the HWY is where that 50mph jolt happens.

my overdrive does the same thing too, all ,my other gears shift nice and firm but that overdrive kicks a little too hard unless I am letting off the gas slightly as it is shifting.
