Air Filters

Which air filters are better the Mopar or the Fleet Guard. I have a Cummin's 03 At Genos the Fleet Guard is cheaper than the Mopar by a couple bucks. No matter how you look at it I will be savinf about 15.00 by doing it myself. The Dodge dealership charges me 30.00 and tells me it needs it everytime I go in for a oil change.

I believe they are the same. You'll save some bucks getting all the Fleetguard filters from Geno's. They have a 4-2-1 kit that includes oil, fuel and air filters. Much cheaper than going through the dealer.

When I was running tha stock type filter I had to change mine every 10,000 miles because it got filthy. 03s had a problem with that..
They are the same except Dodge charges much more $$$...

Dodge seems to be lowering prices. They list the air cleaner for $16 now (was $28) got it for $13. Has the horse hair prefilter.

Also, bought a gallon of ATF+4 for $13, now lists around $16.50. Bought oil filter for $9.95. Fuel filters still too expensive.

(All from Maxwell Dodge in Austin)

I've often read that 03's had a prob with the filters getting dirty quickly. Was there a change made to the airbox?

I have heard that the FILTER MINDER would say its dirty but the filter was not as bad as the minder indicated...I have swiss cheesed my stock airbox and filter is still clean....BUT keep in mind I own a 235hp so california truck that has never been driven in rain let alone snow......

Do you think 20 K is too long to go on an air filter?
My filter minder hasn't mooved a noodle since new and its been 20 k
They say don't open it? Can you open it and check out how your filter looks no big deal?

Is it dirty?? I think 1000k is too long to go if the filter is full of dirt. I saw a guy at the dealership near where I live who replaced his 5 times in a week(an '03)! He was furious about the design taking in air from the fender well. He worked in the oil field everday, where he spent the day in 4X4 in clay and mud. When he spun mud up in reverse, it flew up into his filter. I don't drive gravel or mud that much, but mine gets black about every 10000k. They really take in the air, and I would have liked a different intake than through the fender. My brother- in law bought a '99 powerjoke when they first came out with their "new" design. The trucks sucked air in through the fender. There was a recall after about a year, and the air intake was replaced with one that takes air in from up front.(just my $.02!)
