Question 48RE pan drain plug

I am changing the fluid in my '03 trans and have a drain plugt kit. I want to drill a hole in the pan to initially drain the fluid to avoid the mess. Where do you have your plug installed on the stock pan? I know the filter is in the center, just want an idea to drill a hole that will allow for the plug install afte tthe pan is off. Thanks.

I have a spare pan if you want a backup in case something goes wrong. PM if you're interested.

I have one in my pan. Just get a good drain plug and a nut to fit it. After you get the hole drilled put the nut on the inside of the pan and run the plug up through the nut from the botton and weld the nut all the way around in side the the pan. Remove the plug and put the seal on plug and the plug back in. If you use the jam nut it can come loose and leak. Just my way of doing it.
