30K Mile Service Question, need info ASAP

I went to get all the supplies to do my 30K mile service and couldn't find a trans filter anywhere. I went to NAPA and Advanced Auto and both of them tried to sell me the same filter for a 45RFE?!?!!?

When I told them I had a 48RE trans. both said that the part listed for my truck says 45RFE.

Can anyone help me? I've gotten all the other materials, only need the filter to get started?

Also, does anyone know how much ATF+4 goes into the transfer case? I looked in the owners manual and could not determine.

Thanks

Jason

I got mine at Autozone last weekend for about $15, they had both 45 &48RE. Mine is a 2005 so it has a reusable gasket, so do not use the ones that you get with the filter. Just wipe your gasket off, put some grease on it and put it back on.

I used the Vavoline synthetic +4 and disconnected the return line and was able to get 13 quarts in, the entire system holds 14, if you only drop and refill the pan it takes 4-5 quarts.

I am planning on changing the transfer case this weekend, it is the same fluid, they tell me it takes about 4 quarts.

Also may do front and rear end, purchased the gear from NAPA yesterday.

Book lists 4 Pints for transfer case. Mine generally takes just a touch more than 2 quarts to get it to the fill hole.

I just get mine from the dealership. They are only about $15.00 if I recall correctly.

Smile Thanks guys!

I was able to complete 1/2 of my task this weekend:

1. Changed oil and filter
2. Changed front differential
3. Changed rear differential

I only have 3 items left on my list:

1. Change transmission fluid (pan only) and filter
2. Lube tie rods and u-joint
3. Replace fuel filter (Can you tell me where it is?)

Thanks for the help!!

Jason

It's on the drivers side & has a black plastic cap on it w/ fins. I got a special socket from Geno's to get the lid off, but a regular socket will work if you have the right size. Make sure you change the gasket on the lid w/ the one that comes w/ the new filter.

O'Reilley's Auto Parts sold me the wrong filter too. I wish I would have had the old filter with me when I went to buy the new one. Hint hint.
