2006 issue need a response

Hello all and let me say thanks to those I have received answers to my questions through this forum. I ha ve a 2006 3/4 ton extended cab with automatic, 99700 miles and the only add on is AM steps, no hop up at this time. My problem is this I took the truck in for service and explained there is a problem with the trans, some hunting for the right gear and when climbing a grade sometimes there is problems shifting from 3 to 4 it will go into 4 then drop right back to 3 mind you this is not on aggressive grades, also it sappears that when the converter locks up it now locks up at approximately 67 -68 mph not at the previous 60 - 64 mph as it had previously. So this afternoon I get a call from the service dept ofthe dealership and told that I have added a power adder and it has blanked the vin# so the truck will not start. They said they test drove the truck and decided to look to see if there was a software upgrade so after they loaded it they found this power adder issue, but they are going top try and put it through under my extended warranty. The service person told me it was probably caused by the AMP module on my fenderwell, granted I did not have the dealer install the steps but they offered to when I bought the truck and I said no $$$, I had them profesionally installed by an aftermarket firm and have had them for 2-3 years with no issues and the dealer has downloaded software previously with no issues.
I personally think the tech screwed the pooch and will not admit it due to it being almost out of warranty they think they have me over a barrel, currently the truck will not start and is a paperweight. Any thoughts or suggestions, this is my daily driver.

No way. I would go to the service manager and tell him that you are not going to play one little bit. Either they fix your truck, or you go straight to a lawyers office and call Dodge on the way there.

Others my be better qualified to answer this question...

The power steps will not cause programming issues. I am sure the tech has no clue what he is looking at when he sees the relay module for the steps.

Thats my guess.. He probably thinks its a engine module.. Dodge training must not include wire tracing.

I would tell them I will be in to pick up my free rentall car and call me when you fix my truck at no charge. If they don't agree to that I would call Chrysler. I had two flashes fail recently because of this update K01. The modules were both replaced at no charge to the customer. The flash failed because of memory limitations of the STARSCAN. I do not use the STARSCAN any longer for flash updates. I only use witech now for flashes and have not had any issues. The secret key code was not being transfer into the pcm module after the flash. This results in a no start condition, this sercret code once loss in the pcm cannot be recovered. Both modules will need to be replaced, and both modules will need to be flashed use Witech to flash new modules only.

Procedure

Reprogram the ECM Using wiTECH:
1. Open the hood. Install a battery charger and verify that the charging rate provides
13.0 to 13.5 volts. Do not allow the charger to time out during the flash process.
Set the battery charger timer (if so equipped) to continuous charge.
NOTE: Use an accurate stand alone voltmeter. The battery charger volt
meter may not be sufficiently accurate. Voltages outside of the specified
range will cause an unsuccessful flash. If voltage reading is too high, apply
an electrical load by activating the park or headlamps and/or HVAC blower
motor to lower the voltage.
2. Connect the wiTECH VCI pod to the vehicle data link connector located under
the steering column.
3. Place the ignition in the “RUN” position.
4. Open the wiTECH Diagnostic application.
5. Starting at the “Select Tool” screen, select the row/tool for the wiPOD device
you are using.
6. Enter your “User id” and “Password”, then select “OK”.
7. Select the “Next” tab at the bottom of the screen.
8. From the “Vehicle View” screen, click on the PCM icon.
9. From the “PCM View” screen, compare the “Current ECU Flash Number”
with the “New Part Number” listed on the “sort table”. If the “Current ECU
Flash Number” is the same as the “New Part Number” continue to Step 15. If
the part numbers are not the same, continue to Step 10.

10. With the cursor over the desired flash file, click the small green arrow button on
the right side of the screen.
11. From the “ECU Flash” screen follow the wiTECH screen instructions to complete
the flash.
12. Once the flash is complete click the “OK” button on the “ECU Flash” screen.
13. From the “Clear Stored DTC” screen clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC’s)
by clicking the “Clear DTC’s” button.
14. From the “PCM View” screen, compare the “Current ECU Flash Number” with
the “New Part Number” listed on the “sort table”. If the “Current ECU Flash
Number” is the same as the “New Part Number” the flash is complete. If the part
numbers are not the same, repeat Steps 8 through 14.
15. Turn the ignition to the “OFF” position, remove the wiPOD and battery charger
from the vehicle.
16. Continue with Section E. Install Authorized Modifications Label.

Chrysler will repair your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor). To do this,
your dealer will reprogram your vehicle’s ECM. The new software will eliminate
an improperly functioning OBD system that does not comply with California
regulations. The work will take about ¾ hour to complete. However, additional
time may be necessary depending on service schedules.
If you need help... If you have questions or concerns which your dealer is unable to resolve, please
contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403

Well got the truck back, amazing they got it fixed on Friday said they did not need new computer and all is well. Well the only problems now are the fact that the speedo in now wrong, the high idle does not work, the extended radio play is not working, all due to lack of paying attention, these items I told them about so that if they reflashed I woild still have them but I now have to return on wednesday to get them set like it was... glad the warranty is almost up and I can forgo dealership repairs. Will order a smarty and start upgrading truck. Thanks again to all who answered.
