Swapping 2006.5 ECM for 2006 ECM

I wonder if it's possible for us '06.5+ guys to swap ECM's with a pre-June 2006 model?

Mine has a June '06 build date so I guess there's a chance it doesn't have the '06.5+ ECM. Anyone have access to part numbers to see which is which? How would I find that info out?

Do you want to do this so you can use a different power module?

Sounds like it's going to be expensive!

....looking...

It doesn't have the break down you're looking for, but it'll give you an idea of cost $1200-$1500.

Yeah, just for the purpose of stacking and being able to run boxes like the TST and C5.

I've seen a bunch of used ones at salvage yards for $200-$500. Can they be "reflashed" to match another truck?

The dealer can only up date software version not change vehicle type or config. If the ECM you buy had skim it will not run a non skim truck.Used ECMs are risky!

Justin, you may be able to check the ECM build date on your AE scantool...I cant remember if it works on the non enhanced software.
I also don't know what the date or info would be to see if your truck is 06.5 ecm....but you may want to plug in and check..then I could look at my 06 ECM and tell you what mine says
let me know....

I could get one from an automatic mega cab so vehicle type/config should be the same. Mine has the skim key and I think all megas have it. So does the VIN number just need to be re-programmed into the used ECM? Can a dealer even do that though?

That's a good idea. I'm pretty sure the non-enhanced version won't read it though. I've been through the software a bunch of times and have never seen anything like that. I guess I need to step up to the enhanced version!

So what manufacturing date does your truck have (on the door sticker), and what does it say for your ECM?

Thx man. I just ordered the enhanced version, but I think you have to wait for something to be shipped instead of just a download.

well when you order it they send you the SCI connector ...But you still use the OBDII connector you bought first...but now it has unlocked the enhanced.

I just checked it with the scantool it did not give me the info I wanted, here is what I got from the scantool...
ECM#7E8
ECM part # 85414B00
ECM serial number 13240000

Then I looked through the front drivers wheel well and saw this on a sticker stuck to the cummins ECM...
P/N 4931973
S/N 9235
D/C 08/24/2005
ESN 57414294
E/C S90146. 12

I don't think the scantool is giving the right info???? but who know??

My door date is 9-05

Thanks for posting all that info!

It sounds like the scan tool is talking out it's you-know-what.

Mine is P/N 4937149 with D/C 06/08/2006.

Please excuse a bit of thread jacking here. I have a 2006 truck. Is June the cut off date of the 06 to 06.5 ECM? I am curious which one my truck has.

Thanx.

Not 100% sure. June is the cutoff date for the truck models, but it wouldn't surprise me there were trucks made in June that still used the 06 ECM.

I think a dealer could reprogram a early computer on your truck...you should call and ask them.
