2006 Cummins

Alright my buddy just bought a 06 dodge 3500 dually 4 door long box w/auto transmission and 4x4; but me and him have talked to several people who owned a 06 and they said all they have had were nothing but problems after 100,000 and i was just wondering if anyone else has had issues with a 06, and for only having his truck for 2 weeks the new u-joints that were just put in it are already going bad, and he had to replace radiator hoses, and for a truck that only has 66,000 miles on it i believe that their is a lot more problems down the road.

"Nothing but problems after 100k? If you throw that kind of mileage at anything 2 years old, you are bound to wear out something, especially hauling which that kind of mileage usually indicates. As for me, I have 50k on mine and after I ripped out my blend door, my problems ceased. Reminds me of my Grandpa who bought one of the first Japanese Hilux pickups. He drove it at a max speed 45 mph for six years without putting a wrench on it except for gas & oil. It may have had 20,000 on it. In the sixth year, the battery went bad & the carbureter float developed a leak. He traded it in and swore he would never by another of that brand.

Well my bud's truck is a weekend hauler usually a 2 car trailer and he hasn't had to get the car's out so he hasn't hauled anything and he isnt hard on the truck but the thing is is that brand new u-joints already going out and tranny is starting to jump from dive into second without hitting the trottle and his only has 66,000 mile's on it

and not to single out 06's you got your good ones and your bad ones

It's not the year of truck. My brother has one, and it's great. Your friend bought it used. Who knows what the guy did with it for 66000 miles?? Snow plow King? Drag racer? Hot shotter?? It's a dually, so I'm pretty sure it was used for hauling. Who knows how much, and how hard? Was it overloaded, etc.??

Who are the people you talked to that said after 100K they had nothing but problems? It is going to be hard to find alot of people with that kind of mileage using it as a daily driver. Most likely hot shotters, etc. Find out what they say specifically failed on their trucks, and what they are driving now. Every truck out there has its good points and bad, going to have to pick your poison. If one of these trucks made it hundreds of thousands of miles and not one person ever had any bad luck, then I would imagine we would all be driving that now..

WOW, if it has over 100K on it I need to start driving mine more!!! I only have 27K on mine. It must have been used to hot shot haul, that's 50K a year! I only know of a couple that have high mileage from hot shotting and they have been virtually trouble free. What IS the normal life of radiator hoses? Probably around 100K maybe? In the past with my trucks that have reached 100K and more, I would have done the radiator hoses about 100K maybe a little earlier, that's about the max life of the antifreeze too. If the U-joints were installed wrong, they will go real fast. Sounds like the truck was run a little hard in it's short lifetime, maybe a lot of stuff that will have problems?

.....not trying to bad mouth the 06's I personally like the truck.....but one guy i know Jeremy had an 06 he had to replace the motor in it right around 120k, and his truck is an Everyday hauler. treated the truck nice, he'd have to replace u-joints 1 once every 2 months (understandable everyday hauler) but after he got the motor replace **** started goin wrong with the injectors and the fuel system and it was all brand new.....he got rid of it... and im just sayin my buddy's truck on has 66k and is daily driven not hard on it and now the tranny jumps without hitting the trottle, u-joints are almost done for. and he don't want a truck that is gonna be in the shop more than he can drive it otherwise he'd need to use my dually when he haul's his race car's around.

Nothing personal, but sounds to me like your buddy may have bought someone elses problems. Lets hope not though. I haven't heard anything wrong with the '06 model years. I have an '06 and two other friends with '06 model years. No problems what so ever. Just the update ECM flashes on all three trucks.

I have a 06 3500 SRW 6 speed. Just turned over 140,000 miles. Haul RV's around the country & Canada with it. Blend door broke at about 50,000 & two high preasure fuel lines split at about 90,000. Have a South Bend OFE clutch setting in garage at home. Will install when I get home in about 1 1/2 weeks. This is the best truck I have ever owned. I also have a 97 Dodge CTD that I bought new. Has 240,000 on it. 06 way better truck.

04.5-80,000 miles- been to the dealer twice-tsb on weather stripping and a tsb to enable high idle feature. had one bad tie rod,one bad axle u-joint (put on locking hubs and went ahead and replaced the whole entire front end-since i was working on the front end-anyways) that is it! truck runs and drives like the day i bought it!!

Problems? My 06 has 14000 miles and its only been to dealer for Check engine light TSB, and a coolant leak. Pretty much ok truck thus far.

Averaging 18.6 mpg.

06 45k on it. Blend door, turn signal switch, flash, cowling seal, speaker vibration, lil red hose leak. Cost me nothing. No major issues ever. Nock on wood.

Blend Door, and ball joints at 26k. Now at 50,4xx and still runs like a top. Tranny needs a Gov. Solenoid though. Other than the typical ball joints, blend door and governor solenoid which ALL models have, the 06 runs just as good as my 05 did. TST installed since 7k on the clock. Maybe 15-20 passes in the 1/4 with boosted launches. No complaints here. Just waiting on cash flow to allow for a tranny before more 1/4 mile passes.
