2005 2500 question?

I have a friend looking at a 05 2500 4X4 auto and am wondering if there are any issues with the 05's other than the ussual front end problems like ball joints. Also was the re 48 standard on the 05's? Thanks for your help.

nope no problems, personally i think the 05's are the best year.

note: the plastic intercooler has had some problems, but that is easy enough to replace

Was/is there a TSB for the balljoints on the 05's. My 05 feels like it wants to "wander" more than most trucks should when driving. Whats the best way to get my dealer to replace them ??

I have the 05 with no issues yet with almost 20,000 miles. I haven't heard to much about the ball joints being a issue but if there is, this is the forum to do a little research.

yes, the 48RE was standard in 04 and carried into 05.
The 06 48RE can do and exhaust brake while I think the 05's can't.

Based on my experience look for leaks at the CP3 and pinion seals.

Dave, I think that the problem with the CP3 was primarily due to our (03-04.5) stock lift pumps being mounted on the engine. On 05 and up trucks they are in the tank and do a better job of "pushing" the fuel rather than "pulling" it like on our trucks. I don't recall reading about to many problems with them. However, if they want to add power they probably should be looking at an aftermarket fuel lift pump anyway to supply the CP3. Correct me if im wrong.
