Proper placement of EGT probe?

Ok gang, got all excited today. Got my gauges and am ready to get them hooked up. However, I am somewhat confused. Where is the best place to install a probe on on '06? I called the local Cummins shop and they said to "leave the truck running and start small and work your way up to the thread size."? Oh, and to install it jsut above the point where the turbo and the exhaust manifold meet.

Any thoughts?

Texaspower what mods/programming did you do to your truck to make it SMOKE like that???

I've seen dodges and fords smoke but never that much at low speeds.

smart shop... that seems to be the ideal place for temprature reading from the rear cylinders. there is a web between the manifold front/rear so stick towards the rear side. mine is installed there..

I have a picture in my gallery where most people are putting it. I Don't know about the 06 but on the 05 if you pull the inner fender well it makes the install much easier.. only a few minutes to get it out.

I dropped my turbo and just to see I used the grease tricks and still saw a bunch of shavings on the tape I covered the turbo with..

After much research here's where I mounted mine:

I went the hard way for stopping shavings, most say it isn't necessary but I'm **** and didn't want bad luck to strike so I dropped the turbo several inches and put cardboard in between the manifold and turbo to stop shavings, broken drill bits or broken taps from destroying the turbo...all went well with the drilling, tapping and cleaning out of shavings.

There are many more pics of the install in m gallery.
