2005 2500 knock
I did a search but couldnt find much about the 2005's covered. I have a pretty loud knock in the 1500-2000rpm range. I dont have any noticible white smoke on startup. I have found info on 2004 2004.5 with similar problems. The truck only has 3000 miles on it. I am going to take it in soon. Anything I should tell the dealer. I am worried I am gonna get the standard "its normal diesel noise"...This is NOT normal...Also I have read many people getting told they have high idle times. What does DC consider idle time? I drive in stop and go traffic everyday for a couple hours. Is this something I should be prepared to argue?

Just found another post about this (I actually replied to it, I am a dumba$$). And in it says to use standyne. I had asked my dealer about this before and was told that no additives were necassary. Maybe Ill try it anyway....

Not to scare you or anything but I don't think that noise is normal. I have no idea what it is. But the 3 + 2004.5 trucks I have driven (including mine with 9300 miles) does not have the noise you speak of. I recommend taking it to a good dealer that services alot of diesels. Good luck.

I had the knock as well and yes some diesel knocking is perfectly normal however if it is very prominent then I too would suggest a vist to the S.tealer mine turned out to be a bad injector (2 replaced so far). I have been using a mixture of PS and 2 cycle oil and so far so good
These dealers keep using the same old excuse about high idle times...it must be one of those lines that some "brilliant" DC engineers came up with because they really have no clue as to what the problem really is or they do know what the problem is and would cost them too much $$ to fix all these trucks.
Oh by the way when I hit about the 10K mark my truck makes considerably more noise now than when new, must be loosening up a bit more.
