2003 48RE Torque Converter Problem?

Hi all .... say I have noticed when I let the 3500 set for just any amount of time (2 days and on) it seems to take forever for the truck to move after started and put in gear, I assume it is refilling the torque converter but my other 2003 didn’t do it nearly as bad as this one. Example truck sat for 2 weeks I started it and warmed up about 4 minutes, put it in gear and it took about 10-15 seconds before the truck wanted to move once running and up to temp all seems ok. Has anyone else noticed this could it be a bad converter?

There was a recall on some early 03 trucks for the drainback valve. Was yours one of those?

Boy that sounds like it could be it but I checked the recall list and I am up to date?? I'm glad there was something you've seen to that effect though ...

Just pop it into neutral for a few seconds, and that should take care of it.

Have you done the tranny service yet, and I don't mean just having the pan dropped and bands adjusted. I mean had the fluid completely replaced

If NOT then I reccomend that you have it done. I myself prefer AMSOIL, causes the tanny to run cooler and shift better also.

Trans service isn't going to have diddly to do with the truck not moving for a few seconds.

Forgot to tell you the 3500 only has 3200 miles on it !! I beginning to think J Body is right it's that "drainback valve" leaking the fluid out of the converter. Does anyone know the procedure to repair? do they have to actually pull the transmission?

Drainback device in incorporated into the cooler line up near the lower boost hose coming off the intercooler. You'll see where the line has a fitting with two hex nuts one larger than the other. That's the line with the drainback valve in it. If that doesn't solve the prob the next solution would probably be a pump and convertor. Back in the day with the torqueflight trannies the manuals actually stated that if the vehicle was parked for an extended period of time that you were to start the vehicle and then shift it to neutral. This would allow fluid flow to fill the torque convertor......and Amsoil isn't your answer.

Thanks for the info, I hear you on the Amsoil ..... I remember when we used to service the transmissions back when and drain the TC as part of the service, it took a whild to fill it back up so the vehicle would move
