48RE Torque Converter Fluid Drain?

Does the 48RE have a place to drain the Torque Converter that I am missing? Today I dropped the Tranny pan and when I started looking for a place to drain the Torque Converter there was none! Is it all built together somehow?

I added a Mag-Hytec DD tranny pan, along with filter deep spacer block, new trans filter from Mopar, and Mopar ATF +4 fluid. Also, hooked up a temp probe to use my Dipricol tranny gauge.

I also drained the transfer case and refilled it with no problem. By the way, the tranny fluid looked good, but the transfer case fluid seemed kinda dirty to me. I don't really know why, as I have only used the 4WD a few times. Truck has 15,000 miles.

After putting it all together and refilling with fluid, it seemed fine. Shifted the same as before. Tranny seems to run pretty cool, but I haven't pulled anything with it to test it yet.

Any info on the TC fluid drain would be helpful. Thanks. I just want to make sure I wasn't missing something. Love the Mag-Hytec DD pan. Nice product.

Thanks for the info Big Bob. I thought that was correct, but it never hurts to verify.

You got to be careful doing this but I have done it this way for 10 years----the transmission shop I use is Ray's in Ft. Worth. On the return line a hose is directed to a 5 gallon bucket and the input has a funnel so that new fluid can be added at the same rate as the old being pumped out. Kind of a pain but it works.

OR a safe way is to flush the system. not too hard. dont run the engine as you could burn the trans, , but use compressed air to push it through. workks good and safe, , just regulate the pressure

I didn't flush or do anything with the fluid in the trans cooler or lines. I just dropped the pan with accompanying fluid, added the spacer to put the NEW filter deeper in the MH pan, and then added the new MH pan and new fluid. I guess that "contaminated" my new fluid with a little bit of the old. I really didn't think about it. The truck only has 15,000 miles and the fluid looked good.

Lets say for example, my old fluid was old and burned. Then I drained it, but didn't flush it thoroughly.......what will that do to the new fluid mixed with a little bit of old burned fluid? Is that going to dramatically hurt the life of the new fluid?

My plan is to drain it and change the fluid and filter every 15,000 or so. Or I may alter that and go a longer if it is not necessary. Any comments are welcome. I have never changed tranny fluid before the other day on any vehicle.

Honestly, I think changing the filter every 15k is overkill. Cheap insurance, yes, but overkill. If anything, especially if I towed a lot, I would change the fluid every 15k and filter every 30k. I think that'll keep you in the good graces of the warranty too. Much easier to do this with the Mag-Hytec. Just drain and refill. If you change fluid every 15k, it seems you'll be running practically new fluid all of the time.

If you are gonna just drain and fill, why not just change the filter too?? The gasket is re-useable so no gasket to buy. Just my .02

Any trans Guru here know if you can drill and the tap 1/8" pipe plug in the convertor? Having a Convertor Drain Plug is one of Fords few good ideas.
