'06 here that the lift pump only runs like 2 seconds when I turn the key on with the water sperator drain open. I got the engine light on and am trying to figure if it is the lift pump or not. I assume with teh drain open it should continue to run if functioning properly?? Would this lead you towards the lift pump needing to be replaced? Any help would be appreciated so I can get on the road!

If it is the pump what woudl you recommend aftermarket or do I have to replace teh original pump no matter what? Kinda leaning towards a mechanical pump???

 

To get the lift pump to run for 30 seconds you need to bump the starter with the ignition key, but don't actually start the truck.

When I bump the key i get maybe 10 seconds of runtime. This morning when I very first tried it the LP ran for the normal 5-6 seconds when you turn the key. Now when I turn the turn it runs either 2 seconds or not at all. There doesn't seemt o be any pattern to when it runs and when it doesn't? Thoughts please???? I need to figure this out so I can fiz and get on the road!

 

there are no mechanical pumps. if your pumps bad the truck will not run or it will barely run. you need a fuel pressure gauge to really check it out if the only way your checking it is by what you posted

 

I was speaking towards changing over to the mechanical pumps like mitusa or fuel boss. As far as testing I know a pressure gauge is best but in a situation where i don't really have that option. Just look at potential causes whether it be lift pump or some type of relay or something. Just seems weird that it is working intermitantly and different than normal.

 

I just went and pulled the codes off the odometer. Not srue if the order makes a diff but this is what i got and teh order they were in (all p codes) 0148,0622,2503,2509,2146,2149 I am not srue if these store codes for a long time or what but I suspect that some may be from when my alternator went out. I have looked at the definitions of these but what do they mean in real life?? Need to get on the road and get this settled!

 

I just ran the truck for a few minutes. I then drained the factory fuel filter canister like I would for changing the filter. Normally I get 2 three quarter full water bottles (16.9 oz) but now I only got 2/3 one time and retried and got about 7/8. Both still far under normal. Guess this would lead me to supply to the filter which would mean the lift pump is not functioning properly. Any other possible options such as modules that control the LP?? I can here the pump run for about 2 sec then shuts off. If I bump the motor I get maybe 10 sec. Thoughts????

 

Not 100% what they all mean but here is what i found on those codes...

P0148- Fuel delivery error
P0622- Alternator field not switching properly
P2146- Fuel injector Group 1 supply voltage Circ.
P2149- Fuel injector Group 2 supply voltage Circ.
P2503- Charging system output voltage low
P2509- Cm/pcm power input signal interm


Hopefully someone might be able to translate some of them!!!!

Sounds like more of an alternator or battery problem to me.

 

No mechanical pumps... well sure there is!!

Reset the codes and drive it. Then recheck for new codes. Most if not all are from the alt issue.

10 sec's if you bump the engine is about right. I bump mine 3 times (~30 seconds run time) to re-fill the fuel filter after a change.
