130 miles on 50% gasoline
I usually drive a 1996 12-valve, but this question is about a 2003 Ram Diesel at work. They misfueled the truck last week. About 1/2 diesel, 1/2 gasoline. The truck actually ran OK, but was hard to start at times. No smoke, no excessive noise. By the time they figured it out, it had gone about 130 miles.
They drained the tank and refilled with diesel. I took the truck home, seemed fine. Next morning (40 degrees), very rough start and very loud clattering. It got a little better as it warmed up.
What's likely gone bad? I assume an injector or two is shot. Would the CP3 be OK?
Has anybody else gone through this? What was replaced?

One of my techs did that to one of our service trucks (F350 SuperDuty) in '94... filled both tanks with unleaded and drove it 'til it quit.
Drained everything of gasoline, changed the oil and kept on truckin' - worked fine, although it never seemed quite "right" after that episode (but it was a Ford - kind of hard to tell sometimes when they start falling apart ~ 70K miles
)
Note: when you run a diesel on gasoline, it sounds remarkably like a Briggs & Stratton with neither a governor nor oil in the crankcase...

Had guy in Kuwait do the same thing with an early Hummer.
Ran it till it quit.
Drained everything, filled it w/fuel and it ran fine after that. He didn't get as far as the one in your case so it may be bad!!!

i do not think it would hurt the injectors if it were mine i would add one gallon of dextron atf to the tank and run it i would think the cp3 would last 130 miles with half lube . usually the damage is done to the top of piston to the first ring, not sure on common rail. if this is what happened it will not hurt it any more and you will start to see white smoke this is not the correct wording the walls and piston are either galled or they are ok
Advocate of getting the ban button used on him...

I would not run ATF. Although 1 qt would not hurt anything it still is not designed to burn. Put a quart or quart and a half, of 2 stroke (ashless) oil in it and change the engine oil as soon as you can. Should be OK.
