My center support bearing is bad on my 05 dually.Im leaning towards a new bearing instead of a $500 1 piece driveshaft.The truck has 75000 miles on it and it is not heavly modded. Is this premature wearing or should I expect to replace these at this mileage? I do tow with this truck but not alot,I pull a fifth wheel a few times a year 12000 pounds,and assorted light towing. I noticed shuddering under the load of the trailer but not much driving empty,I crawled under the truck and I am able to move the shaft at the support bearing,so I suppose thats my problem.

More than likely, the center or carrier bearing is your problem and also any or all 3 of the u-joints are cooked also. I switched to a 1 piece about 3k miles ago and have not had a problem since. The truck drives 100% better, trans even shifts smoother. My mind-set was; I'm going to get every mile I can out of my truck so why replace the carrier bearing every 50-90k miles. Depending on your availability of tools and experience, you may have to have the old bearing pressed off and the new bearing pressed on to the shaft. The 1 piece shaft from www.doghousediesel.com is a Mopar part. I would rather drop $550.00 for a new shaft and 2 new u-joints and down the road just have to replace 2 u-joints than have to replace that junk carrier bearing. To me, these trucks all should have come with a 1 piece 6 inch diameter aluminum shaft. Just my .10

I have the same problem at 70 k and I am leaning to the 1 piece shaft.

 

I have heard a lot of positive about the one piece units. The fact that it fixes the problem, and it makes the truck ride better. 550 is not a lot to spend on these trucks, I'd go with it.

 

I was experienceing vibrations, shudder, and my dealership replaced the center carrier bearing under warranty around 30K. When those same symptoms started to return, I decided to go with a 1-piece driveshaft - I can say it was the best choice I could have ever made. Well worth the price to be done with the nuisance. Rich at Doghouse Diesel took care of me, I had my new shaft quickly, took all of about 15 mins to install.

Well now u have me thinking,I kinda expected to hear something in regards to how much power the truck is putting out.Now I see this as a manufacture short fall.I guess Ill spend at least $250 on the center support and u-joints.(I dont have a press).So Im almost half way there.Thanks guys again,helped me make an informed decision.I see a 1 piece in my future.

Well,the one piece drive shaft came from doghouse diesel.First I have to tell you they shipped it super fast 2nd day or faster.And it is all I hoped it would be.My truck rides great.No vibrations or noise,smooth as silk.Thanks again DTR.Money well spent.Oh and 1 real bad u-joint and a bad center support on the old shaft.

Anyone have a part # for a 03 QC LB with NV5600?

 

Call DoghouseDiesel.com and he will set you up. There is no perfect fit shaft for the 2003 NV5600 LB. You will have to shorten the shaft about 2" after you get it from them. Total cost for me was $530 shaft + $110 to have it shortened. Well worth the cost. No more shudder.
