06 starting problems
06 starting problems
I have been having some problems starting my 06/auto lately. Its one of those problems that comes and goes. When I goe to start the engine, everthing functions as normal, lights, dash lights, engine preheater. When you turn the key forward to start, there is a second or two delay before the starter kicks in. One time it would not kick in at all. I checked battery voltage, checked all connections, checked fuses, disconected the batteries for about 15 minutes, tapped on the starter, put it in and out of gear, and it would not start. Finally I jump started it with another vehicle and it started right up. Everything works and functions as normal so I know it is not the batteries. The dealer just gave me the old "theres not much we can doe..." story, but a truck that won't start in the middle of hunting season does me no good. Thanks for any help and advice, Bones
It's probably the yellow wire by the starter shorting out. They often come from the factory with the yellow wire rubbing up against a metal bracket. Once the wire coating wears off it starts to short out and cause a no-start condition. I bet that's your problem.
Sweet! I'll have to find some ambition and go drop the starter and give it a good look. I should probably get it taken care of just in case anyway. The dealer told me that if it doesn't start again to remove the key and pull out the IOD? fuse for a few minutes. This would somehow give him a better idea of what it could be. Does this make any sense to anyone? Thanks for the help!
