Just wanted to see if you guys have experienced either of these "quirks".
When idling with the truck, hi idle (1100) or normal, the truck lopes constantly. Wonder if this is just the way they all are.
Also, the most concerning is the tranny. When in low range and tow/haul the truck gets up into od lockup, then when I slow down the truck to idle it will not unlock the convertor. The governor will fight against it at idle and if I step on the brakes to stop, it almost stalls the truck before the convertor unlocks. It wont do it if it is not in tow/haul. Is this normal for these trucks?

3 cyl idle on 3rd gen trucks? I am in a cold climate and have never had a 3 cyl idle, at least not that I could distinguish. mstordahl..for comparison I have no lope when running at high idle or another speed for that matter. Your other condition does not sound normal either.
Mine has been doing the idle lope thing lately too when using the high idle feature. It had not done it until I installed my Quadzilla XZT so I just attributed it to the box. But my truck runs fine and get reasonable mileage and tows great, so I'm not all that concerned.

I know mine does. Looking for the page in the owner's manual. Can't say for sure that they all have it, but I know I have enabled it before. Most of the time, IIRC, it was below 32* and idle for 5-10 minutes. I'll still look for the info though.
Found this for 2nd. gens. I am absolutely positive I have experienced this in mine. Assume it is the same for all CTD after the tsb. Could be wrong! Won't be the first or last time for that!
Symptom/Condition:
Extended idle operation, especially in cold weather, can lead to stuck valves and bent push-tubes due to insufficient cylinder heat. This allows varnishes/oils to condense on the exhaust valve stems, leading to stuck valves, and damaged valve train components. A new software feature, enabled or disabled through the DRB III (See instructions under Repair Procedure), reduces the chance of valve sticking and improves cab heat warm-up time.
Once enabled, idle speed will slowly ramp up from 800 rpm to 1200 rpm when all of the following conditions are met:
1. Intake Manifold Temperature less than 0°C (32°F) and,
2. Coolant Temp is less than 60°C (140°F) and,
3. The Transmission is in Neutral or Park and,
4. The Service Brake pedal is not depressed and,
5. Throttle = 0% and,
6. Vehicle Speed = 0 mph
Additionally, if Intake Manifold Temperature (IMT) is less than -9°C (15°F), and all of the parameters above are met, three of the cylinders will be shut off upon reaching 1200 rpm, creating a slight change in engine sound which is normal. This allows the engine to create increased heat in the cooling system, allowing more rapid engine warm up and cab heating.
Both features will automatically disable when one of the following occurs:
1. The Automatic Transmission is placed in gear (forward or reverse) or,
2. The Service Brake pedal is depressed or,
3. Throttle position is greater than 0% or,
4. Vehicle Speed is greater than 0 mph or,
5. Coolant Temperature is greater than 79°C (175°F).
Engine speed will return to normal operation at 800 rpm. If the engine continues to idle and coolant temperature is at or below 60°C (140°'F), the feature will reenable. In order to operate properly, the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS) must stay at idle.
NOTE: ANY TYPE OF AFTERMARKET IDLE SPEED KICKER THAT ACTIVATES THE APPS WILL DISABLE THIS FEATURE.
Use of the 110V block heater will not allow the feature to function after an overnight soak. If the vehicle is left idling, without use of the block heater, 1200 rpm operation will begin when the intake temperature drops below O°C (32°F) and coolant is less than 60°C (140°F).

I did have the high idle feature enabled after I bought this truck by a dealer, which works well.....but I was just concerned about the loping. Guess I will have to talk to the dealer.
I also have not heard of a 3 cylinder cut out, not to say that there isn't one though ?!
