As for the tranny issue, I can't say as I have ever gone fast enough in low to get it into overdrive. Or tried tow/haul either while in low.

The only problem I have is my rear tires seem to be wearing out quite a bit faster than the fronts

I don't think the 3-cyl idle is an option on the 2006 models, at least when I bought my truck and went over the list of options it was not on the list. I still have that list from the dealer, have to find it and check for sure.

My 2006 bumps up to a high idle when it's really cold, think it's around 1100 or thereabouts, but the idle is real smooth just like the lower idle.

Have standard tranny, so I can't help you out with the problem you are experiencing. Try a search with your keywords, there are a LOT of threads that discuss what you are experiencing.

From everything I can read, it isn't an "enabled" feature as it used to be. it is standard. BUT certain conditions apply like in the above TSB for 2nd gens. I know I have experienced it in mine, but an awful lot of conditions have to be just right!

sorry to drag up an old thread, has anyone learned any more about this topic, just bought an 06 and had the high idle feature enabled, before i had it enabled i didnt ever notice the lope but after enabled if i start the pickup up when its cold out, it will idle up on its own to about 1000 and do the lope. if i use the cruse buttons to bump up the idle myself manualy it will not, just trying to make sure this is normal, another guy at work has an 06 without the high idle turned on and his wont do it??

The 3 cylinder idle is only available on the 2nd Gen trucks, no 3rd Gen has ever been able to do the 3 Cyl shuffle.

As for the trans issue that is not normal so you need to take in in to be looked at..

Mine just started to do the loping thing this year , i took it to the dealer and they were confused they reprogramed the ecm and it still does it. The only thing that has been done to the truck is that i had the rail pressure sensor replaced

weather here just started dipping below 0 C . the other morning I started my truck as usual with my remote start and when I went out the idling sounded uneven (I hope this is what you mean by loping)@1000RPM. I got in the truck and put my keys in and pushed the brake to deactivate the remote start and the idle smoothed out to 700 RPM. The next night was the same temp so I decided to plug it in a couple of hours before starting it. When I went out to leave the truck was idling real nice 700RPM. Maybe try doing the same to see if it makes a difference. I believe I experienced this last winter as well which was my first with this truck.

Yup. Hmm Hmm Hmm sound. I have found that some people can't hear it.....seriously. Friend of mine's truck lopes just like mine. He can't hear either of them doing it. Must be some sort of frequency some can and can't hear. Sounds funny, but I think its true.

I have had my truck since Nov of 06 and it will do the lopeing think at high idle, but I dont think it always did it, just in the past two years as I can remember. Also I think it only does it when it goes to high idle automatically, verses me using the cruise controll to do it, I may be wrong on that but I will try next time its really cold out.

My truck's automatic high idle is still the same, about 1100 and smooth, no lope. I also have the cruise control idle capabilities, idle can go to about 1500, but still smooth.

When I was at my dealership getting an update flash, I asked about the 3-cyl lope and was told that my 2006 would not do the 3-cyl lope, no programming for it.

So, the lope could be an indicator of something else, maybe an injector? But def NOT the 3-cyl lope like the earlier models.

My '06 has the high idle lope too, but only if I don't plug in the block heater. It will initially go to 1000RPM and be as smooth as a baby's butt, then the lope will start Its time to take it to the dealer while she's still under warranty! No sense laying out the money if its covered

I am test driving an 06 Mega Cab and this does it too. My 04 does not. I am having second thoughts on buying the Mega. Love the size and everything else about it. May stick with my early paid off 04 Quad Cab.
