06 CTD Breaking In Questions

Hey everyone I just bought a 06 CTD Auto, SLT, Silver, Long Box, Quad Cab 4x4 w/ the Big Horn Package. This will be my first Diesel and my first new truck. I am going to be picking it up in march. What do i need to when i first get it to break it in?

Drive the hell out of it. Wait about 1000 miles and hook some weight up to it and drive the hell out of it some more.

Drive it like you stole it! I would put a few miles empty or lightly loaded just to get the ring and pinion broke in a bit. No worries on the engine.

Would putting my 4-wheeler 600lbs and the trailer be too much right away. And when i tow the trailer should i go on some hills too and vary it between that and flat roads?

DC recommends 500 miles before any towing (to seat ring & pinion) after that hook to whatever you want it'll pull it

the owners manual for my 06 actually recommends that no break-in is required but that putting some weight behind her to tow for a while will help things seat nicely and settle down.

Volunteer to tow something for a buddy.....like a tractor or car on dual axle trailer...LOL

As the manual states, allow 500 miles for the drivetrain to break in and then start towing. The engine itself needs no babying. The break in procedure for the engine is to work it... if it isn't worked it can take over 20,000 miles for it to properly break in.

I doubt 1500 pounds is going to be enough weight. About 4500 of my first 9000 miles was towing 6000 lbs, full throttle up every hill. In that first 9000 miles the fuel economy improved by nearly 20%. I imagine without the towing I wouldn't have seen such an increase so early.

Hey guys...i just talked to my dad and he might be getting a 28' enclosed cargo trailer roughly 4K pounds. They say as a rule of thumb (from what i've been told) tongue weight is 10% of the trailer weight would a class 4 reciever hitch be able to handle that? I pick my new 06 CTD on march 10th or so i'm really excited...its my first diesel and my first new truck
