06 AUTO Trans is Over Heating?????
06 AUTO Trans is Over Heating?????
I have just towed a buddy of mine's car up to Topeka Kansas and auto is junk! After about 500 miles of towing the auto would not shift out of 1st gear after re-fueling. Has anyone else had the same problem. I let her cool down about 30-45min and she will shift at redline into 2nd real hard. While not towing the trailer the trans does fine. The load is only about 4500lbs total. NO---I did not lock out the O/D. Please comment if you have had the same problems. Truck has 2500 miles on her.
Thanks, JB

For one that is not normal, if it won't come outa first, no matter what somethings wrong.
2nd, have you checked the fluid level? have you changed it?? Did the dealer check it before delivered??
If the above checks ok, by all means get it to the dealer, there responsible for the warrenty, bring the trailer with you, show them what it will do.
you might have caught a line on a rock, piece of rubber kicked up, something.
You never know now adays, but that expensive truck you bought comes with a warrenty for a reason

Sounds like an infant mortality issue. That's where parts fail early on....ie what the warranty's for. It could be any number of things: front pump, tc won't disengage (electric clutch, if it's locked up), bands slipping, pressure problems in the valve body, and so on.
Let us know what the solution is....that's what makes this site great! Closed loop communication!

Obviously something is wrong. It's not "junk" it's just broke. Relax and bring it to the dealer to get it fixed. Hopefully it's something minor. I had a trans issue where the truck would just stay in second gear. Almost went the lemon law route after many trips to the dealer. Turns out the truck was going into limp mode due to an electrical short in a wire harness under the truck that was scraping against a ground strap. Another member on this board helped me find it. Yours could even be a software problem your having. These trucks are very complicated nowadays and sometimes the littlest problem can have major consequences. Since my truck has been fixed i've had no problems and it pulls a load just fine. Actually the 48re trans has a very good reliablity record unless you start bombing it. Hope it works out for you.

At Dealer NOW!
I took the truck in for a couple of reasons plus the trans. The constant squeaking from the 4X4 lever, Right Dash Vent rattling, Very Slight leak from the top radiator hose where it meets the engine piping, Engine oil on the bottom of the oil pan. Friggin Trans!!!! I think that since they are still having the Employee Pricing right now I will be trading this one in on a LWB or Mega with the 6sp.
STAR says that they do not know!!!!!
OK well here is the deal. STAR says that since there is no Trouble Codes in the Computer showing any faults that they dont have a solution for this problem. After 2 days of dealing with them not wanting to do anything with it they say to change the Valve Body and see if that helps my issue's. I have the truck back right now and everything is fine driving up and down the road. Like before I have to have a load behind the truck to get it to act up like this. I told my service department that I would be bringing the BobCat and trailer to hook up and see if this new Valve Body was the cure. I also told them that I wanted them to check the Bands and replace the Trans Fluid Entirely. I will see what they come up with. This is really a pain, and I'm now looking at getting a 6sp so that I will not have to worry about towing a mere 5,000 pounds up Fancy Gap and having my transmission go out like this. I havent heard of anyone else having this same problem in an 06, but the 47re guys are having these same symptoms.
If you have anything that I could tell the Dodge Dealer to check please let me know. Thanks in advance!!!!! JB

We had a customer overheat one climbing the hill west of Needles Ca. towing what he said was a 26 foot boat (never seen a boat that short that required a 2 5/16 ball.....) but that's not the issue because it should have been capable of the pull even in the 118 heat. Our trans guy put in a pump and convertor. Must have made it home because we didn't get the "you guys s*uck" call.
Any one who has a tranny problem should get in touch with Tim Holt over at: http://dieselram.com/ he is the man who knows about your trans like the back of his hand.
