06 auto milage
ok my dad has an 2006 auto with no mods whatsoever and he is getting lower gas millage than anyone like 10 to 12 and it has 8000 miles on it granted it will get a little better but should be better than it is he doesnt even drive it hard
i was wondering what you guys recomendations would be in how to fix it and he shouldnt have to buy a chip and all that to make it the same as any other stock truck . so should he take it back to dealer and if he does what would they do
thanks travis

Put a horse trailer behind it loaded down with two Clydesdales and hit the road about 85 mph for several hundred uphill miles. It'll definitely get better MPG after being used hard.

My first tank of fuel that I drove off the lot with I got 13.6 mpg, hand calculate. Has he worked the engine hard by towing or hauling? If not then tell him to load 2500 lbs in the bed or hook it to a 4-6,000 lbs trailer and run the truck that way for a few weeks to help break in the engine and to get the rings seated. If he wants to do it faster then have him drive the truck (either a load in the bed or hooked to a trailer) non stop except for fuel for 36 hours. Every few months I'll load 2,500 lbs in the bed if I don't have a trailer to hook to and take it on a 6-8 hour drive to work the engine to get it hot enough to burn off any carbon that may be built up on the injectors an pistons.

Mine wasn't that bad from new, but I took it on a 800 mile round trip on day two. I basically took the smaller roads from N.E Texas to San Antonio and back. Lots of hard accelleration passing and lots of hills. Pretty much the same way I did my 89 model when it was new. Truck has about 12,000 on it now, and fuel mileage is 20-22 MPG with a good mix of in town and highway driving. It has also had several 300+ mile trips pulling 6,000lbs.

My 06 has dropped down from 17-20 hwy to babying it at 60mph to get 15. I pull up to 23k regularly with it so it's been worked. 20k miles now and very unimpressed with the mileage. My 03 gets 18 hwy easily at 70-75mph. I thought I had a good one at first but hopefully it is a mechanical issue that they will find when I eventually take it in.

My mileage started out low and then I bought a 10k TT and ever since, it's been getting better - started around 10-12mpg and now I'm seeing close to 15 empty with 22k on the odo.

12 to 14 for the first 13,000 miles, then the motor started feeling better (kinda like when you trim a boat) Now I get 15 1/2 to 16 1/2 running 70 to 75 mph, (about 2400 rpm) across the desert. 17,000 on the odo. I pull a 13,000 # 5th wheel about 25 % of the time.
