06 3500 mega cab smoke

i just drove about 20 miles this morning and right as i was about to pull in the drive i started smelling something burning. i got out and saw some white smoke coming from under the hood. i looked under the hood and from what i can tell it was the ac compressor. any one know what could cause this or how much it would cost to fix.
thanks

Could it have been a locked up compressor and the belt was smoking, or maybe a refrigerant leak? Either way, if it was a compressor issue, and your not replacing it yourself, probably $500. The system will have to be checked, evacuated, cleaned, repaired, then recharged.
