Smile New 2006 3500 Mega Cab 4x4 Inferno Red Dually Owner

Folks,

Great site! I am 2000 miles into my new truck and like it very much. I pulled my 8500 lb trailer for the first time the other day and WOW! I would like to clean the tranny shifting up a little though. I have called several places and looked into this on this site as well. I am not into the crazy power that some of you freak's are rather, I want proven reliability, better shifting, better torque converter management and bottom end power. I do not want to worry about EGT's at any time. For the most part this is what is being suggested:

1. Banks six gun w/speed loader set to level 3 for towing
2. AFE stage 1
3. Cat delete (not crazy about this)

Any thoughts and what’s the best place to purchase these items?

Thanks,

Tony

welcome

Welcome to the sight, I am pretty new myself and have found this place very helpful

Here is my suggestion to your question.

Edge EZ Module
K&N Filter Kit(ebay). Tube, filter, clamps, ect
Muffler delete

Should be exactly what you are looking for

Good luck

No expert either but from what I have found is the cat delete will do nothing but hurt the ozone and possible inspection hassle down the road. I would go for a low restriction muffler before I go for the redneck straight pipe. A good intake sounds nice. It sounds like most of these guys stay away from the banks and look at quadzilla or edge or bullydog.

Skip the cat delete, it's not hurting anything under there. A flow thru, or muffler delete is popular.

Not meaning to hijack your thread, but what is the BEST replacement performance muffler out there? I want to maintain the stock exhaust, but replace the muffler.

My presonal preferance is a piece of pipe... Cheap, and flows well. Also sounds

MBRP makes probally the most popular replacement muffler.

Oxymoron?

Like he said MBRP, anything "Diamond Eye" or flow thru.

If your gonna be adding power you need gauges. Skip the banks and go with something with something with built in gauges or you can add gauges like i did on the column.
1. Edge Juice w/Attitude. Gives you built in gauges and on the fly adjustability. Plus it has safety features like a turbo timer and cold engine protection where it waits till the engine is up to operating temp before giving full power. Me personally will be going for bigger power but you said you dont want that and i feel the juice w/attitude is a good option for you.
2. The AFE is a good choice. It makes the turbo scream a little more and if you went with the stage 2 it would whistle alot more. If you think the whistle might get annoying, go with a closed box system like the Volant. The AFE is an open element filter so thats one reason why its so loud.
3. Muffler delete. Im running this right now and honestly, its not much louder than stock. It has a nice low rumble to it (i wish it was louder but i have emissions testing here so i have to keep the cat on). I actually think the cat does more sound deadening that the muffler does.

Stay away from K&N nothing but bad news. Allows more air AND dirt.
Go with a AFE replacement filter for your stock box and cut a 4" hole in the bottom of the box. Good filter and keeps things not to loud plus more power.
I have heard good things about a Donaldson comercial muffler huge things that are straight through in design but keep away the dreaded dron sound that can come from aftermarket systems.

K&N

Nothing wrong with K&N!! If you are worried about dirt put a pre-filter on it.
