05 CTD Fuel Filters Not Fitting

Okay after trying to replace the fuel filter a few weeks back and having it not fit with a Fleetguard speced for a 2005 at Genos gargage filter pack (didn't have a recess on the top so it wouldn't fit the cap at all), I checked this forum and heard good things about the Baldwin PF7977 and saw a picture of it with the recess which I then ordered and found it didn't fit last night.

When compared to the old Fleet guard that was in there (that was also ordered as part of a filter kit from Genos a year or so ago and worked fine) I found the Baldwin to be just a bit taller.

When the Baldwin is installed I can't get the cap down to get the threads started due to it being a bit taller. I'm at a loss now since both are speced for a 2005 CTD.

Do I need a new cap or any other things to check? And yes I removed the old o ring and installed the new one so it's not that.

TIA

The Fleetguard didn't fit in the cap and didn't have the small round recess to fit into the cap, but the Baldwin is recessed and fit's into the cap just fine.

Have you cleaned out the canister?

I have an 05 and have had no problems with a PF7977, on my 3rd.

Check to see if the old filter seal isn't stuck down at the bottom of the inlet tube.

Nevermind, after getting it apart I found the top of the old Fleetguard was still stuck in the cap. With it all being black it looked like it belonged there. Now I just have to hope that it was still filtering properly and there's no damage to the injection system.
