Is this normal? It only has 25K on it. I made an appointment for Monday to get it looked at & have my new pan put on while they are at it.

i've noticed mine does that sometimes but only if i park on an incline, it will be really hard to take it out of park and when it does, it makes a loud clank and the truck jerks. but now i put my ebrake on when parking up or down a hill and it does not do it.

Use your e-brake all the time. These are big heavy trucks with a lot of weight on the parking pawl, Especially when parked on inclines/declines or when hooked to trailer. Set the parking brake before you put the truck into park, it will come out of P a lot easier.

I don't use my driveway so I park in the street, which is level. I always use my e-brake if I'm on a hill though.

Torqueflight based transmissions have been doing that for over 35 years now.

It's a simple adjustment up under the dash. They should be able to do it with no problem. I had the same problem a couple years ago...

second the advice to use your e-brake. By setting the e-brake you allow the brake system to hold the truck from rolling rather than the transmission.

For me I come to a stop, set the e-brake, put it in park and walk away. When leaving I start the truck, shift into drive or reverse, release the e-brake, and drive away.

I got into this habit with my 94 Chevy and now it is just second nature. The only down side is you get mud, etc. on the e-brake peddle and adjacent vertical interior. And, every once in a while if there is a lot of crud on the peddle when you release the e-brake a chunk or mud/water will coming flying back at you.

I had this problem also and they had to replace the parking prawl in my truck. The ball detent actually put a groove in one of the prawls teeth and that is why it was hard to get out of park. I now use my ebrake all of the time and haven't had any problems.

Do you guys know how to tighten the e-brake? I am thinking this may be where part fo the problem is. The dealer didn't fix it when I was in last time, & I'm not overly converned w/ it because I don't always notice it. But, I did notice this evening that when I parked in the driveway (which has a slope), that it shifted forward slightly after putting on the e-brake & then putting it in park. It was almost as though the brake did nothing.

Dad was right.

I was taught from day one to always, always with any auto vehicle to shift to neutral, set e-brake,let it settle(forward or backward),then put it in park. Using this common sense approach yields a smooth transition from park to drive. Thanks Dad! I miss you. R.I.P. 1998
